A memorial wall section with tiles made by the students of a beloved teacher. The wall is about 2 feet high with a black tile frame. The children's tiles alternate with burnt umber tiles. The children's tiles are obviously elementary school renditions of local scenes, and a local person said the M was for the teacher's last name, which she did not recall. There is a colorful broken tile freize at the bottom. I can't find any information on it, but will dig further.

A colorful street painting by the Ravenna Eckstein Park, with lady bugs, flowers and trees all shaped like the petals of a large flower. They used a type of paint I've seen as directional signs on the urban trails around here, very tough, which can handle quite a bit of traffic, obviously.

Old plum trees arch over a sidewalk in Ravenna Neighborhood. The trees, covered with white flowers, are full of twisted and gnarly branches. Their trunks are thick and rough. The lawns are littered with white petals. As you walk down the sidewalk, you can see yet more trees down the blocks of older houses.

A huge old flowering plum tree growing in a sidewalk border is covered with tiny white blossoms. Its gnarly branches reach up into the blue sky dotted with white clouds. It is taller than the American foursquare house behind it. The neighboring houses are also overshadowed by its spreading branches.

Bright red barberry berries glisten in the rain, sprinkled across the photo on brown branches with sharp thorns. The branches are also festooned with dusty blue green lichen, both fluffy (fruticose) and growing growing close to the branch (foliose). Here and there a clump of moss makes for an additional color splash. You can see raindrops forming on the berries. The overall effect is of spots of red and green falling towards the ground.

A clock shaped like an eye, with the pupil a clockface, is set in the wall above the door of a local school. The clockface is painted with a spiral swirl of purple of dark purple in a bronze background. The "cornea" looks like a purple splash against mottled bronze. There are two metal "eyelid" arcs around the clock. What look like eyelashes flare into a spray of metal strips at the top. The ones at the bottom have purple-toned balls hanging off them like Christmas tree decorations. The wall behind the clock has two rows of windows reflecting the trees and sky.

Is the clock ( which happens to not be working) a symbol of the surveillance students are under? Are the glaasy dots which replace the numerals really camera eyes? Is my imagination running away from me?

A playful and colorful mural, about 40 feet long and 8 feet high, done in a primitive style, decorates a retaining wall by the playground. All the images are in bright colors. From left to right: a huge bright red berry; a blue, yellow and brown bird with a green worm (?) and its feet in bright blue waves; a multi-hued; a dragonfly in primary colors with a body that looks like beads; a blue plant with a yellow flower; a red ladybug above a brown acorn; a strange plant with a flower like a feather duster; a pink and black striped snake; a big blue and red robin (?) with an ice cream cone;another large blue plant with a long yellow and gray flower; a blue eyed cat with a wasp (?) hovering above in rainbow primary colors; and finally an orange monkey hanging off a blue leaved vine. The mural is about 20 years old, and has only a bit of tagging. The wall itself is weathered concrete, overshadowed by large pine trees.

A garden entry gate sits between two white pillar gateposts topped with metallic caps. There are cement stairs flanked by a black handrail leading into a green garden. The gate itself is a brass arch with a black metal spray of arcs angling out from the bottom. There are bright brass figures attached to the gate, four on each side. They are strangely amorphous, and might be whale abstractions, or perhaps large birds such as geese. The two at the top might be tubular flowers with reflexed petals, sitting at the top of two of the black gate arcs as if on stems, and they seem to have black pistils exerted at the top. The abstractions are tantalizing. You wonder what sort of people live here, perhaps whimsical despite the simplicity and austerity of the stairs and handrail?

Two pink and white autumn anemones poke out from abundant palmate leaves. The 5 petaled flowers have a dense circle of yellow anthers around the center mass of green pistils, which will later form a globe of seeds. The petals are graduated pink and white with contrasting veins running up from the base. The flowers are on long brown naked stems. There are more stems around with clusters of fuzzy gray flower buds waiting their turn.

There is a sign about this mini park set at the edge of a path among the ferns: The "CirclePark" represents the hear of the Ravenna-Cowwn Historic District, an area of historic homes placed in the National Register of Historic Places on September 13, 2018. Neighborhood volunteers created and continue to maintain the native plant landscape you see around you. We hope you enjoy Circle Park and the rest of this wonderful Seattle neighborhood as much as we do.

A lot of salal bushes are in the parks landscaping. Here you can see a cluster of salal berries hanging off their green leafy bushes in the sun. The berries are nice and ripe, blue black on reddish stems with red bracts contrasting with the berries.

An old-fashioned chest, painted midnight blue, with black strapping, a brass lock and brass fixtures, sits in front of a house in the grass by the sidewalk. Its top is bright purple and “labeled in white: “Puzzle Chest.” Then a legend in curlicue letters in sky blue: “Take one. Leave one.”
In the upper right-hand corner, small black letters add:” and sticker exchange.” There are a couple of stickers stuck there. There are some decorative mushroom plaques pushed into the grass around the trunk.
