At 18C (65F), flags were flown and signs were clutched in the strong winds. We along with @ofmanyfandoms.bsky.social gathered to wave and greet people, as they drove by. We’re doing this till the government listens, or we have an election.

Photo of a white poster with black lettering and the words “Smith Deliberately Ignoring Forever Canadian Four hundred and Four thousand, two hundred and ninety three signatures!” There is also the stylized red maple leaf logo used by the Forever Canadian campaigners. 404 293 represents the total certified signatures gathered during the signing period far exceeding the requirement to be tabled in the legislature and brought to a referendum. Smith tried to say the proponent pulled it from a referendum. This is a lie, she is ignoring it to let the Separatist referendum go ahead if they get the required signatures. The Forever Canadian referendum would have stopped the Separatist one from going ahead.

Also people preparing fly Canadian flags.Other signs saying: “Dog Whistle Racism”; “Smith Deliberately Ignoring 404 923 signatures” with the Forever Canadian logo. That was how many certified signatures that were gathered for the Forever Canadian petition. There was supposed to be a referendum on the question “Do you agree that Alberta should remain in Canada?” which is the basis of the petition. Smith is ignoring it and instead if the Separatist petition reaches the required signatures, their unconstitutional question will be on the ballot instead. The last sign in frame reads “Humanity Over Power”.

There is also a small section between Treaty six and eight on the Saskatchewan border which is carved out for Treaty ten indigenous people which carries on into Saskatchewan. This sign also carries the message “Indigenous People Have Spoken, Alberta Is Not For Sale”. Then we have a Forever Canadian lawn sign stuck in the snow with a small Canadian flag attached and the words “A Group Opposed To All Efforts Taken To Leave Canada” in black lettering on a yellow background. Then we have a final person holding a “RECALL UCP” sign. There were two more people out of frame holding large Canadian flags.

A rally attendees holding a RECALL UCP sign. Another with a sign reading: “Hands off Our CPP”. Referring to the UCPs goal to remove Alberta workers contributions to the Canada Pension Plan. They tell everyone that more money would be going to retirees if they had it in their hands. However, the investment company the UCP wants to hand it over to, has lost a lot of investors money to date. So much so, the UCP has legislated they can’t be prosecuted for bad investing. Very Trumpish.

The business lot is always empty weekends and up today we could park in the lot. There were Security Guards posted stopping us from parking, unless we had legitimate business. They had the excuse of an unattended man-lift being left in the lot. Go Figure!

Photo of the poster I made, to draw attention to the recall initiatives in Alberta. It reads: "Fire Smith Save Alberta, RECALL Justin Wright”. It also has the Canadian flag in the upper left corner. I volunteered to hold one of the protest banners, so I had this on attached to a small rope and hung it from my neck while I was holding the banner. This also meant I was unable to take any pictures of the gathering.
