First day on #StAgnes for our usual late October trip produced some nice birds incl #RedbreastedFlycatcher & #SiberianChiffchaff in the Parsonage, 7 BlackRedstart, #MedGull & CorysShearwaters off Wingletang and HorsePt and @hilbre.bsky.social & I found my first #CattleEgret on StAgnes #UKBirding

🌍🌏 Red-breasted flycatcher (Ficedula parva)

The Red-breasted flycatcher is a small, agile bird with a distinctive appearance. Males have a chestnut-red throat and upper-breast, contrasting with their olive-grey and blueish upperparts and white underside. Females are duller, with a brownish-grey breast. Red-breasted flycatchers are typically found in deciduous woodlands, particularly those with a plentiful supply of insects, their primary food source. They are acrobatic fliers, often catching insects in mid-air. 

Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1)

Distribution: Eastern Europe and across central Asia, migrating to southern Asia to overwinter.

Disappointed to miss this beauty at Newton Pool today. The call came in from Chris while I was seawatching over at Beadnell Point. I went down and searched for it for a couple of hours this afternoon but no joy. #redbreastedflycatcher
