24: in 2026, I want to grow as a scholar in so many ways! I am excited. #ResearchAdvent
I enjoyed this and am grateful! Happy New Year to all!
21: motivation - I am motivated by the end goal and knowing I’m getting better and better #researchadvent
Day 19: Analysis - I plan to use critical discourse analysis in my research. 🧐 #researchadvent
Day 17: I found my niche topic and it makes me so excited. 😆 #researchadvent
Day 15: Place… I‘m open to going wherever the wind takes me. (: #ResearchAdvent
Day 13: Friends… cohort! #researchadvent
Day 12: Thinkers… Collins, hooks, etc. a couple faves. Ooo Gireaux. Pretty radical. I like stuff I’ve read of his so far. Baldwin. Izjen’s TPB. #researchadvent
Thank you so much for #ResearchAdvent ! It was fun and brough structure to my month. It's so lovely of you to have made it for us! 💕
In 2026… I:
Hope an article will be submitted for publication.
Want to present again at a conference.
Want to get caught up with the Library conferences on BlueSky page.
Want to develop my research ideas into a proposal.
Aim to develop my #SystematicReview teaching
#ResearchAdvent #Day24
Day 9: Publication. I have some from masters but I really want my own or to be a first author anyway, so it’s a goal. (: #researchadvent
Day 24 of #ResearchAdvent - In 2026 3 of my biggest tasks/aims are:
1. Getting the Queering Research Methods Handbook through the 1st & 2nd drafts + co writing the book & second intro Im responsible for
2. Designing a new postgrad Understanding Data course
3. Do more graphic social science work
Scholars is the prompt for #Day23 of #ResearchAdvent. I am so pleased to work in a university library with so many scholars (academics, researchers and students) around me - physically, online and through their published work. I learn through the people I support and interact with.
Day 8: I think I’m late. Anyway, this whole first semester was a challenge. 🫠 thankfully I made it through. 😭❤️ #researchadvent
Day 23 of #ResearchAdvent - Scholars
Im fortunate enough to work with a lot of fantastic scholars.
Want to give a shout here to @echomikeromeo.bsky.social without whom GLINTS wouldn’t have formed. Also loved his community focused trans history workshops.
Day 23 #ResearchAdvent 2025 is a very special one for me.
As I was officially granted leave to supplicate last week, I can now join the group of fellow #Scholars who have earned the right to say #PhDone 🎓
#PhDLife completed ✔️
A wonderful way to round-off 2025 🥂
A pile of two small presents wrapped in brown paper handprinted, with ink, with black stars and blue crackers.
As my children will attest to, I can and do often relate anything to #SystematicReview. With #Day22 of #ResearchAdvent being Gift, I’m seeing analogy between the wrapping paper my daughter and I printed and keyword selection for systematic review research. Both an art and a science.

Day 22 of #ResearchAdvent - Gift
For my PhD grad my partner got me this beautiful kaweco sport fountain pen with Dr K English engraved on it. Use it every day. It’s by far my favourite pen (which is saying a lot cause I LOVE pens)
#ResearchAdvent Gift - My daughter has been our gift. And my gift to her is showing her mom did work to contribute to society ❤️🙏🏽 #PhDSky #PhDJourney
An advent calender of prompts relevant to those doing post grad research. There us a brown background, white lettering and Christmas bauble decoration
#ResearchAdvent Day 22 Gift - what have I been gifted & what will I gift? First question easy - I've been gifted wonderful data by generous governor colleagues. The second less so as I can't be so bold as to hope my findings will be useful to them in their work ... but perhaps they will be. #PhDSky
Day 7: I really want to read more visual communication articles to understand how to analyze images. #ResearchAdvent #phdlife #communication
Ooo, #Day21 of #ResearchAdvent is motivation. This comes in fits & bursts. I’m motivated by new challenges, but when I can’t see a way to a solution, or when other parts of life are overwhelming, I get demotivated. Now doing my day job full time, I have less motivation to research in the evenings.
Day 21 of #ResearchAdvent - Motivation
When I was at school my pastoral care teacher said there was no point in me going to a Glasgow Uni open day. I got my undergrad & PhD there and now lecturer there full time.
So yeah my motivation is spite 🤷♂️
Day 21, motivation:
One of the things that motivate me is - I see how cool something is and I want to share the coolness with others. Both in research and teaching, I just want people to see how delightful and important these things are!
#ResearchAdvent
I’ve been discussing the #ResearchAdvent #Day20 prompt, Theory, with my daughter. Do I have my own theory? Is there a theory I ascribe to? Or this could be about the difference between learning the theory around doing a #SystematicReview & actually working on projects myself-a very different thing!
Day 20 of #ResearchAdvent - Theory
Love reading theory but struggle to write about it. I’m much more of a methods person. I get how to structure my thoughts around empircal work but with theory I have a tendency to tie myself in knots trying to restructure my arguments again and again.
Finally, up to date with #ResearchAdvent with Day 20 - Theory.
I could write about theory for days. I think it's a remnant of my bachelor's degree being in Law and French, where I was exposed to a lot of theory. From Rousseau to Foucault, Olympe de Gouges and, bizarrely, the Marquis de Sade?
Day 19 of #ResearchAdvent was Analysis.
Analysing law is my comfort zone, but there's not a lot of law about neurodiversity as a concept separate from disability. So, I had to broaden my methodology and opted for critical discourse analysis, focusing on discourse created by neurodivergent people.
Day 18 of #ResearchAdvent was Inspiration.
It's funny; I had always thought of doing a PhD, but I struggled to find a topic that would keep me hooked for four years.
Amazingly, lying on my parents' couch in January 2021, the idea came to me. Neurodiversity and criminal responsibility.
So, I'm in what I hope is the final stretch of my PhD, and I've Found it rather challenging to keep up with #ResearchAdvent this week.
(This is my post for Day 17 - Found 😂)
An advent calender on brown ground with daily prompts pertaining to research
#ResearchAdvent Day20 Theory, been revisiting my theoretical framework & looking into Relational Theory. Also really interested in French & Raven's typology of power. Love a good bit of theory! #UKEdGovs # UKEd
