👀 Do you see it now?
People often get closer than they realize.
What looks “calm” to us can actually be a sea otter on alert.
Sea otters don’t actually need angry cartoon eyes to tell us how they feel; we just need to pay better attention.
Observe. Don’t disturb.

This is the 'nursery zone' at Morro Bay. When you are calm and quiet, you can observe serene moments of wild sea otters like this one. #respectthenap

Slow Saturdays are for napping. Sea otters spend half their day resting to conserve energy and convert food to body heat to stay warm in cold water. Floating. Snoozing. Thriving. Help sea otters survive andthrive by giving them space and quiet. #RespecttheNap #slowsaturday
Sea otters burn calories faster than you or me to keep warm in cold waters! Because of this, energy management is especially important and otters will much of their free time napping to save energy! To stop from floating far while they snooze, otters wrap up in kelp to stay anchored #respectthenap
Toby’s turned the kitchen chair into his personal nap throne. All he asks for is peace, quiet, and zero interruptions. 🐾💤 #TobyTheCat #CatNap #DoNotDisturb #NapKing #CatLife #FelineMood #ChairThrone #SleepyCat #RespectTheNap #CatsOfBluesky
Another Monday, and the world feels heavy. In times like these, it’s more important than ever to care for yourself. Take a cue from the 🦦—rest isn't retreat, it's resilience.
Be gentle with yourself. Recharge. Reset. And remember to #RespectTheNap -yours and others’

Day after Memorial Day looks like...💤
It's hard to bounce back after a long weekend so be kind to yourself and others - especially all your wild neighbors - and remember to #respectthenap ! You can learn more about our disturbance research and recommended viewing guidelines at www.seaottersavvy.org
It’s #StewardshipSaturday and we are recognizing some tour boats we’ve spotted doing a GREAT job giving resting sea otters space! Remember, bigger boats need to give MORE SPACE. Shout out to Morro Bay’s Chablis Cruises and the Lost Isle—we see you being sea otter savvy!

cool waters of the slough

a gentle rock
as long as they let me float on
and stay napping with my young

Sea Otter Love can be complicated....but not for a mom and pup ❤️
It's been a bit rough lately, so take some time for yourself - be kind and open to a hug.
But don't hug wildlife! Remember, love them from afar! #respectthenap #respectwildlife
