"Rather than preventing it, we’re spending money on addressing it."

Australia has already handed over $800 million of the estimated $368 billion cost of AUKUS.

“If this deal goes ahead…this will amount to the biggest international transfer of sovereign wealth in Australia’s history.”

We’re seeing history repeat with so many racist attacks, says @purplepingers.bsky.social. Attacking people who don’t look like you because you feel disenfranchised. We know how bad this can get. We need to look after people. #RevenueSummit25

The housing debate is dominated by people with disproportionate power who profit from property value increases, says Maiy, as opposed to the people who actually need homes. A wealth tax would also be valuable, argues @oxfamaustralia.bsky.social. Billionaires are ballooning. #RevenueSummit25

Josie Lee from Oxfam Australia tells the #RevenueSummit25 that Australia's tax system is "fuelling inequality".

"We are seeing a system in Australia that is failing to tax wealth... if we really want to tackle the problem, scrapping the capital gains tax is a winner"

Time to talk housing crisis #RevenueSummit25. Here’s Maiy Azize from Everybody’s Home, @purplepingers.bsky.social, Josie Lee from @oxfamaustralia.bsky.social, and @amyremeikis.bsky.social. The government is doing all the wrong things on housing, says Maiy. We need to build houses again. Lots. Fast.

The nation profiting from AUKUS is systematically breaking down the global trading order as well as the global institutions that uphold equity, law and public health. This is a threat to our national security, @ebonybennett.bsky.social reminds us. And beware the PBS attacks. #RevenueSummit25

Submarines or sovereignty? Which does Australia want most? The biggest transfer of sovereign wealth in Australian history, says @ebonybennett.bsky.social. All with no guarantee of delivery let alone success. All without a Treasury brief nor parliamentary scrutiny. Why? #RevenueSummit25

Australia Institute Deputy Director Ebony Bennett, has told the #RevenueSummit25 that Australians are right to demand better scrutiny of the $368 billion AUKUS agreement.

Institute research shows two-thirds of Australians want a review of AUKUS.

The usual suspects here at #RevenueSummit25, asks @richarddenniss.bsky.social? Today we’ve seen a former Merrill Lynch economist and a Fortescue adviser and a manufacturing leader working collaboratively with environmental, union and other non-profits to create change. That’s why we’re winning.

Australians pay more in HECS than gas companies pay in PRRT... in Western Australia, drivers pay more rego than gas pays royalties, and gamblers in WA pay more tax from gambling than gas does from royalties - Greg Jericho.

Gas companies have been great at positioning themselves alongside mining companies, says @grogsgamut.bsky.social, misrepresenting their impact. They’re not big employers. They pay minimal royalties. #RevenueSummit25

Diesel subsidies are the 16th largest expense in the Australian budget, says Deirdre Willmott. We pay mining companies etc. more to use diesel than we spend on the army or the air force. #RevenueSummit25

Why are gas prices going up? Because the more we export, the more we drive demand, and the more the prices rise. It’s costing households and industry more, and yet we’re not getting any meaningful revenue back to government. No company tax, no carbon tax, and a faulty PRRT. #RevenueSummit25

Here’s @grogsgamut.bsky.social on how Big Gas is Taking the Piss. Turns out students are the backbone of our economy: the government earns more from HECS repayments than PRRT, and in WA and Qld, more money comes in from rego payments and gambling! Fark #RevenueSummit25

@australiainstitute.org.au If you check the net worth of your donor Andrew Forrest, if we took 30 billion and gave it to the 37800 chronically homeless Australians, they'd have over $840,000 each.
He'd still have billions.

Back to #RevenueSummit25. Here’s Liam O’Brien, ACTU Asst Secretary, on how a 25% tax on gas exports could fix Australia’s housing problem. For starters, the Petroleum Resource Rent Tax (PRRT) is a rort—returning just 43c for every $100 of gas exported. Look at what Norway achieves! Sigh
