We got #RevenuesAndReform
Every day is an Airing of Grievances when you’re a transit advocate, so this Festivus, let’s celebrate the hard-fought wins and successes in 2025 instead: new CTA leadership, the CUS centennial, and of course #RevenuesAndReform.
Onwards and upwards my frents
Been a long road, but #RevenuesAndReform have officially been signed into law by @govpritzker.illinois.gov.
The easy part is over.
Now we get to work.
Mark Twain said "Few things are harder to put up with than the annoyance of a good example," and to that point I think the boots-on-the-ground legislative delegation trip to Germany last year was a crucial component in getting NITA's #RevenuesAndReform across the finish line eleven-ish months later.
SB2111 can’t mean that we take our foot off the accelerator because we’ve averted the fiscal cliff. On the contrary, now that the General Assembly delivered #RevenuesAndReform our transit agencies need to get serious about delivering efficient, effective, transformative service with that investment.
Sure sounds like current board members are actively trying to sabotage the hard-fought #RevenuesAndReform of SB2111 through an amendatory veto.
We're not done yet: call @govpritzker.illinois.gov's office and tell him to sign SB2111 **as-is**!

A “bailout” would’ve been throwing money at the fiscal cliff and hoping the problem goes away for a few years.
We got #RevenuesAndReform instead. It’s a transformational investment.
other organizations that helped get #RevenuesAndReform passed, in no particular order:
- Metropolitan Planning Council
- Active Transportation Alliance
- many members of the Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition, including Sierra Club Chicago and Abundant Housing Illinois – ilcleanjobs.org/who-we-are/m...
We did it, we have #revenuesandreform !
My frents, we have #RevenuesAndReform
Deleted a tweet that I will 100% post again tomorrow if nothing happens today, because today is the day for a unified front to get #RevenuesAndReform done
It's not too late to call your representatives and tell them to support ➡️HB 3438⬅️ for #RevenuesAndReform. Reach out: SaveTransit.org
It’s never too late to call your reps and tell them to keep fighting for #RevenuesAndReform: SaveTransit.org
It's time for #RevenuesAndReform.

I just sent a(nother) email to my state representative. Took five minutes. Tell your reps we need #RevenuesAndReform in this week's veto session.
“Instead of restructuring operations or consolidating overlapping agencies, lawmakers are…” literally restructuring operations and consolidating the overlapping tasks of our transit agencies. That’s what #RevenuesAndReform means and that’s what NITA delivers. www.dailyherald.com/20251025/bus...
Northbound Pace 307 operator racking up delay minutes by refusing to pass a northbound CTA 90 bus, which also operationally makes no sense since anyone on this 307 continuing north on Harlem needs to be *ahead* of the 90 for a seamless transfer.
NITA *is* the compromise. #RevenuesAndReform
CrossTowner Regional Rail route diagram. Lines X5 and X6 would use the CUS Connector; Lines X1, X2, X3, and X4 would use the tunnel, and Lines X7 and X8 would use the circulator.
A regional rail transit map demonstrating how CrossTowner regional rail would help to unify the existing Chicagoland transit network.
Regional Benefits to CrossTowner Regional Rail: * CITY OF CHICAGO Interlining allows for trains every 15 minutes or better at most city Metra stations, including CTA-like 7.5-minute headways between downtown and Hyde Park. CrossTowners also provide single-seat or single-transfers from the entire South Side to O'Hare and job markets in the north and northwest suburbs. * COOK COUNTY By serving existing Metra stations more frequently and by providing new direct connections through downtown, intra-county trips are much more convenient for transit users. With CrossTowner service reaching as far as Elmhurst, Blue Island, and Harvey, working-class communities throughout the county would see improvements. * COLLAR COUNTIES With CrossTowner regional rail serving more local stations closer to the urban core and inner suburbs, existing Metra service to and from the collar counties can operate at higher speeds with fewer stops. For the outer suburbs, every train can be an express train on eight Metra lines.
Regional rail will be a post-reform priority to help unify our region and create more seamless connections and benefits for riders throughout the entire six-county Chicagoland region, but first we need meaningful #RevenuesAndReform to create that 21st-Century vision. Call your reps: SaveTransit.org
This won’t be an easy vote for many senators and reps to take, especially considering we need to pair reform with meaningful new operating investments to ensure success.
That’s why we need you to go to SaveTransit.org, reach out to your elected officials, and tell them we demand #RevenuesAndReform.
One week from today our state reps have the opportunity not to prop up our 1980s transit system for another few years, but to set the foundation for truly transformational change and get the ball rolling on bringing Chicagoland transit into the 21st Century.
The time is now for #RevenuesAndReform.
"I’m asking the Legislature they do it during the veto session. We need reform in the way that it’s governed, and that is going to be part of a bill. [...] We have to make the investment — have to."
@govpritzker.illinois.gov says #RevenuesAndReform.

Collar county households spend $21 billion *a year* on driving.
Let's give your car a break with better suburban transit options. Your state representatives can deliver that next week with #RevenuesAndReform to give Chicagoland modern transit governance.

Chicagoland transit is at that failed network state. But this time we have the opportunity to start fixing the root causes: it's time for #RevenuesAndReform to move beyond a siloed approach to regional transit, creating a one-network, one-timetable, one-fare system.

Regional-level service planning, local-level service delivery. NITA allows our service boards to focus simply on operating the high-quality day-to-day service we expect and deserve.
The time is now for #RevenuesAndReform: one network, one timetable, one fare.

(General Assembly is back in session to wrap up the veto session a week and a half from now, call your reps and tell them we need #RevenuesAndReform now!)

Some transit officials are aware of its existence, as is a policymaker or two, but right now the entire advocacy movement needs to be in lockstep on making sure that we can get #RevenuesAndReform to save Chicagoland transit in the veto session, so that’s been the focus this year.
Every year, collar county households spend $21 billion on car ownership. Direct costs. $21B straight out of wallets, checkbooks, and family budgets.
Usable, reliable transit alternatives are a regional affordability priority for all of us.

Agencies shouldn’t be building their budgets on the backs of people who can’t afford the higher upfront cost of a pass.
Our service boards should focus exclusively on operating service, with fare policy controlled at the regional level.
It’s time to bring home #RevenuesAndReform.
SaveTransit.org
Strongest argument for #RevenuesAndReform is centralizing fare decisions at the regional level so our three service boards can work together and share resources, rather than CTA putting a way heavier burden of the fare hike on riders transferring from Metra.
Good editorial in Crain’s today from CMAP’s executive director about not only the importance of #RevenuesAndReform but also the logistical ramp-up required for any new revenue streams to actually start flowing www.chicagobusiness.com/opinion/what...
