🌅 Golden Hour at Clear Lake – Riding Mountain National Park 🌕

I captured this magical moment at Clear Lake in Riding Mountain National Park with my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV using the 24-105mm f/4L lens. This shot was taken at ISO 100, 35mm, f/8, with a 10-second long exposure—just as the sun dipped below the horizon. A few scattered clouds danced in the sky, and the moon made a graceful appearance, casting a subtle reflection across the calm lake surface.

To get this shot just right, I used both an ND filter and a polarizer filter. The polarizer allowed me to cut the glare off the water and reveal the rocks below the surface. The dock leads the eye right into the glassy water, giving this photo depth, calmness, and that true peaceful lakeside vibe. This is why I love exploring and photographing Canada’s wild places.

🌅 Stillness After Sunset – A Moment of Pure Tranquility
Captured at Riding Mountain National Park, this image speaks volumes about patience and the reward of waiting just a little longer after the sun sets.

Often, people pack up their gear the moment the sun dips below the horizon—but I’ve learned that some of the most breathtaking colours appear in the moments after the sun is gone. On this calm evening, there wasn’t a breeze in the air. The lake was completely still, perfectly mirroring the sky’s golden and fiery orange hues.

I stood there in silence, taking in the peaceful atmosphere and waiting for just the right moment. Using my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV paired with the Canon EF 24–105mm f/4L IS USM lens and an ND filter, I was able to create this surreal image of the dock stretching into a lake that looked like glass. The ND filter helped me soften the light and enhance the smoothness of the reflection, adding to the image’s dreamlike quality.

It’s moments like this that I chase as a nature photographer—where the chaos of the world melts away and nature shows off in the simplest, most powerful way.

Addressing affordability? Interesting. He voted against $10 child care, against pharmacare and against dental care.

Andrew and I enjoyed some time outside hiking in Riding Mountain National Park yesterday afternoon as the extreme cold temperatures started settling into Western Manitoba.

I think that was the most amount of ICE I’ve ever had on my face! 🥶 🧊
