The #HighLevelBridge across the #RiverTyne opened 1849 and designed by #RobertStephenson formed the first #London #Edinburgh rail link and first dual road-rail bridge in the world, still carries both today between @gateshead and the #Toon. The #victorians knew a thing or two about good engineering!

The #Toon #Quayside is known for its iconic #TyneBridge. The #HighLevelBridge 1849 (right of pic), designed by #RobertStephenson was the world's first to carry road & rail traffic, and the first continuous London-Edinburgh railway. It still takes bus and rail traffic today. #sustainable #engineering
