Rodenticides kill raptors (birds of prey). A poisoned mouse equals a poisoned owl. Please throw out the rat poison.

If your place of residence uses #rodenticide bait traps please consider choosing alternative methods. There are safer and more effective options that don't harm #wildlife (see below).

#Rodenticide is moving further up the food chain. This needs to END. How many more animals have to suffer before we ban these goddamn poisons?!?

#Owls can’t adapt to #rodenticide. They have no evolutionary defense against poisoned prey. If we keep using it, they disappear, dying a painful death!

STOP USING RODENTICIDE - so tired of arguing about this with people. I still have friends who use it. There are other options. It hurts so many animals in the food chain.

Second-generation Anticoagulant #Rodenticide poisons (SGARs) are largely out-of-control in Australia. BirdLife Australia just organised over 280 experts to send an open letter to government decision makers, because this delay is ridiculous given the evidence.

The good news on #rodenticide - there's a growing movement outlawing their use (yay).

Bad news, there's still too many using this crap, and killing desirable critters!

Winning the "War on Rats" Requires Community-Wide Systemic Change, Says New Study - Beyond Pesticides Daily News Blog (Beyond Pesticides, April 14, 2022) Over the last century, cities across the world have engaged in a “war on rats” that has failed to achieve meaningful results, and should consider a new paradigm for rodent management, according to a review of relevant literature published in Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution last month. As awareness regarding the widespread dangers of commonly used rodenticides increases, and states like California begin to rein in their use, the importance of alternative management approaches has grown. Reviewing over 100 studies on municipal rat management, the authors outline a path forward that embraces a systems approach and calls for a change in public expectations. Since the early 1900s, municipal rat management has primarily focused on killing rats and removing their food, water and harborage, but data available on the efficacy of this approach is sparse. Successful programs, according to the literature, are often grant funded and time limited, or employ such substantial amounts of rodenticide that it carries significant risks regarding secondary poisoning of people and nontarget species. Failures consistently note the ephemeral nature of rodent reductions. A 1909 study referenced in the review, from which the authors indicate much of present-day rodent management is based, […]

Despite studies which successfully ‘won’ the war by relying extensively on #rodenticide, the mgmt realities may have relegated much of this war to #rat “farming" meaning harvesting #rats only to regrow & repeat collection.#rodenticide #pestcontrol
