Day 6: No severe DDIs in BNF. Any drug with sedative action will ↑risk of somnolence and sleep attacks e.g alcohol, opioids, antipsychotics, levodopa. Drugs with hypotensive effects could worsen this ADE. Dopamine antagonists such as neuroleptics, metoclopramide can reduce effects of #rotigotine
Day 4: #rotigotine is a non-selective dopamine agonist with preferential affinity for D2,3 receptors in the basal ganglia of the brain. By activating the dopamine receptors, motor symptoms such as poor movement, tremor and rigidity can be improved
Day 2: #rotigotine is used as a once daily transdermal patch which can be used to control motor symptoms from PD alone or as an adjunct in adults 2-16mg/24 hours. Dose is titrated up to tolerance weekly. It can also be used for severe restless legs syndrome 1-3 mg/24 hours
Day 1: Motivation to develop non-ergot dopamine agonists for Parkinson’s disease (PD) with improved tolerance led to discovery of more selective synthetic agents #pramipexole &
#rotigotine
7 days of #rotigotine starting today
