Today is #oakappleday (aka #RoyalOakDay) which marks the return of King Charles II to the throne in 1660 after fleeing and seeking refuge in an oak tree. Here is a particularly attractive oak apple (a #gall caused by the oak apple gall wasp, Biorhiza pallida) that I have spotted recently

👑 #OTD in #History 29 May 1660, on his 30th birthday, #CharlesII returned to London from exile in the Netherlands to claim the English throne after the republican Puritan Commonwealth came to an end. Traditionally celebrated as #OakAppleDay or #RoyalOakDay.
