The accumulating knowledge of the relationship between #SCBEMs and #Embryos, allow us to learn about species similarities and differences in gastrulation and body plan elaboration.

Furthermore, it is this work that enabled research into early human development, derivation of pluripotent stem cells and Stem Cell based Embryo Models #SCBEMs.
COMMENT: Professor Emma Cave writes about the regulation of human SCBEM and how there are good reasons to distinguish them from embryos. Read the article in BioNews: www.progress.org.uk/human-stem-c...

New in Journal of Law & the Biosciences: I argue for separate regulatory pathways for embryos and stem cell-based embryo models (SCBEMs).
Paper builds on the 2024 Nuffield Council on Bioethics WG I chaired.

I like to think that in my field, stem cell based embryo models ( #SCBEMs), states will follow the initiative of the UK Code of Practice, & its impending governance framework.
In conceiving it, we had Asilomar (its positive impact as well as its limitations) firmly in mind.
Let me know how we did.
This is a very welcome contribution to the UK’s ongoing discourse on the governance of #SCBEMs.
I look forward to discussing this and related issues with at the Progress Educational Trust’ Annual Conference next week, 4 December.
