For the May 2026 Holyrood Election Here is an example of how a 9 constituency region list vote is calculated. To make things simple, we assume 100k SNP list voters. (Spreadsheet follows to demonstrate the number of list votes counted/binned by number of constituencies won in a region, on 100,000 votes, from 1-9 wins. Devisor= seat wins+1) 1 (seat) 50k/50k 2 (seats) 33.3k/66.7k 3 25k/75k 4 20k/80k 5 16.6k/83.4k 6 14.2k/85.8k 7 12.5k/87.5k 8 11.1k/88.9k 9 10k/90k Polling shows the SNP doing well in the constituencies, so their list vote will be decimated by the list vote divisor. The more FPTP wins there are, the more the list vote is divided. An SNP Majority is not on the cards. Polling shows they will get ZERO list seats & ALL SNP list votes will be WASTED! The question for all INDY supporters is this: DO YOU WANT YOUR VOTE COUNTED FOR INDY, or do you want to gamble with the near certainty of it being binned? By not wasting any votes, we should keep a majority INDY Parliament & possibly get a supermajority, whilst keeping more unionists out. VOTE SMART. If you want to guarantee that your list vote WILL be counted for INDY, then apply a two-party strategy: SNP in the constituencies, Scot Greens on the list.
