We're excited to welcome Dr. Alina Sigaeva, a cell biologist, to SFB 1372👩🔬🙌
Her research explores how cells organize themselves, their architecture, stem cell differentiation, and the fascinating world of cryptochromes, where biology meets quantum mechanisms. 🔬

#Birds can see without #oxygen. At least part of their retina does. A new @nature.com study of scientists from @au.dk with #SFB1372 contribution shows that the avian inner #retina functions under chronic anoxia, supported by anaerobic metabolism and the #pecten. 🐔👁️ doi.org/10.1038/s41586-025-09978-w
What a journey the organisation of the #YoungResearchersSymposium in animal navigation and magnetoreception! Thank you to the other organanisers, the participants and to our #SFB1372. I am really happy to be part of this community. 🐜🦆🐟🦋🧭✨☀️
Congratulation to our #SFB1372 project members in Israel, @shakedpa.bsky.social and Prof. Nachum Ulanovsky, with #UniOldenburg Prof. Henrik Mouritsen & co-workers, on their findings on head-direction cells in free-flying bats, just published @science.org: www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.adw6202

Last week was full of interesting talk about #science at our #sfb1372 autumn meeting at the #University of Oldenburg and at the #neuroscience meeting at the #HanseWissenschaftskollegen. Me, my team and our supervisor @cataglyphilosophy.bsky.social could talk about #neuroethology in #insects! 🐜🧭🧲
Happy to share the preprint: @anjaguenther.bsky.social from the @mpinb.mpg.de and our #SFB1372 researchers under the supervision of Karin Dedek and Henrik Mouritsen found 4 different types of horizontal cells in #chicken and #Europeanrobin. More here: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
That's great! - Karin Dedek, PI in our #sfb1372, was also involved in this proposal with her knowledge of the #retina of birds and mice to bring more order into the nomenclature of #rods and #cones in vertebrates.
Congrats to our #sfb1372 research group fellow Pauline Fleischmann @cataglyphilosophy.bsky.social and her team for their findings on the magnetic compass of #cataglyphis deserts ants! #magnetoreception #neuroethology #womeninstem
Ja cooler Zufall - hab heute auch Steckdosen gezählt im Hotelzimmer 🤣 Ergebnis: ebenfalls 6 🔌 War beim #SFB1372 in #Oldenburg.
