Holy shit, gang. I did it. I successfully scheduled a TTRPG night with 4 other adults, HAPPENING TONIGHT.

(We haven't been able to sync schedules since October.)

We finally overcame the curse and got 1st 2026 #SotWW RPG last night.

@sensiblearchie.bsky.social gave us a nice urban dungeon, @sashette.bsky.social and @antporter.bsky.social killed rats, @xneardark.bsky.social brought the style, and my divination mage actually contributed to combat. Vaguely.

Whereas #SotWW is a mad box of tricks just waiting for you to flick one of its many switches. Intellectually that feels easier to handle.

In reality, the difference may just be presentation. In #13thAge the world comes with several switches already flicked. But it does perhaps imply a world

As a setting, #SotWW is absolutely chock full of potential adventure ideas. But the one key difference is the GM needs to initiate things. There are just as many things to do - probably more in fact. But lacking anything like the icons, there are no agendas driving the setting in dynamic ways.

So, they didn't find out the reason or the method, per se, but they *did* make an oak tree sprout out of a dude's face.

Progress on the #ShortStirling build for #HeaviesGB is 'glacial'. Lots of other stuff going on, not least prepping a #SotWW campaign on Roll20 (first time), oh, and work.

Shadow of the Weird Wizard has a spell called Flying Jellyfish, and yes, it is exactly as amazing as you think it is.

The spell in question is literally just "hit things harder" - it's only limited by the number of times it can be cast between rests, as with the smiting.

However, #SotWW isn't a system that has you go through encounter after encounter after encounter without rests, so the limitation is even less.

Again, I stress I've NOT been sweaty here.

The Priest COULD have even more damage and be re-rolling any 1s on those many, many d6 if they so chose.

What I'm highlighting is that #SotWW player options CLEARLY designed to be good at one role are often overshadowed by other, not so obvious choices.

#SotWW has a monster that does 4d6 damage, roll twice and take best

Forget that for a game of soldiers. Just roll 3d6+6 and be done with it

(average 15.9 vs 16.5, and who cares about half a hit point here or there? 😉)

#SotWW is taking an unexpected left-turn into a delve under the eponymous structures of the city of Four Towers.

Feel like a trap/puzzle dungeon is more fitting than just rooms of monsters, but I know it's not everyone's cup of tea.

Research/inspiration needed to make it thematic but not a drag...
