Album cover depicts Mike Watt inside his VW Beetle, driving exactly 55 miles per hour ("double nickels" in trucker slang) on Interstate 10 (known as the "dime") toward the band's hometown of San Pedro, California. This and the associated album title were meant as a retort to Sammy Hagar's song "I Can't Drive 55". Watt stated that the cover was inspired by the cover of Kraftwerk's 1974 lp "Autobahn".
