Started an EPP #samplerquilt block last night; foolishly followed the instructions in Lynn Edwards book - cutting papers by drawing around a template made from her clearly hand drawn example. Everything is so wonky 🫣 If I'm lucky I'll only have to redo a third of them and I can fudge it together.

Enjoying this Hawaiian Ulu #samplerquilt block made in the traditional way with needle turn appliqué much more than yesterday's Dresden. I'd like to make a full size Hawaiian style quilt at some point in the future, though this style is very hard on my hands so it'll probably take ages.

Awaiting the white sheets I have ordered to supply the necessary white fabric for my EPP project, I have returned to do some of the #SamplerQuilt blocks from Lynne Edwards. Not super interested in this appliqué Dresden Plate but I was pleased to finish it.

Enjoyed hand piecing this variant of 'Drunkard's Path', having skipped ahead in my quilt blocks. Need to gird myself to do a couple of machine strip-pieces blocks next, which I find terribly dull, but want the learning experience.

I like this one quite a lot. The aggressive geometric forms are very satisfying. The point matching requires plenty of concentration and accuracy in hand piecing and sewing as well. Block 13 in the #SamplerQuilt.

Block 8 of the #samplerquilt finished! I'm going to wait until I get my larger slotted ruler to square it, but it's pretty tight. Technically a Spider's Web, but fabric choices make it more like a windmill which I prefer. I also have a huge piece of unneeded sewn stripes left over, no idea why.

Finally finished block 2 of Lynn's Edward's Essential #SamplerQuilt book, which is a Rail Fence, hand pieced. These blocks are quite large, about 12 inches across, which feels odd, as I had some weird idea that quilt work is all tiny and intricate. This thing is going to be giant! #sewing

Finished block 5, Card Trick, from Lynn Edwards #SamplerQuilt, hand stitched. First time making up smaller squares and then assembling them, definitely learnt (and ignored!) some things about squaring blocks here! Also used a slotted ruler for the first time and can wholeheartedly recommend.

Last night I finished the fourth block, a Trip Around The World, from Lynn Edward's Essential #SamplerQuilt book. Because there are so many seams, you can see the progression as I get better at estimating the required 6mm seam allowance! This was all hand sewn.

Finished the first block from Lynn Edwards book The Essential Sampler Quilt, a Tumbling Blocks or Baby Blocks. I had intended for the lighter surface of the blocks to be in the top but... I'm not about to unpick all this hand appliqué sewing so this is how it's staying.

It's surprising that I've never done an alphabet quilt, being that I am a retired editor and language nerd. Probably because it's not quite my style. I've made it a point this past year to get outside my comfort zone, so it was going to happen eventually. 😉
