Today in #LaborHistory 2/21/1934: Augusto Cesar #Sandino, #Nicaragua independence fighter, assassinated by #dictator Somoza. While in #Mexico, 1920s, Sandino participated in strikes led by the #IWW. The #Sandinistas, or FSLN, who overthrew Somoza, in 1979, were named for Sandino.

Today in #LaborHistory 7/2/1929: #Sandino left for #México to get for his 1927-1933 #rebellion against US #occupation of #Nicaragua. Adopted #IWW colors for their flag. Assassinated by Somoza, 1934, who seized power & ran country, with his sons, as dictators, until Sandinista Revolution of 1979.

Today in #LaborHistory 5/18/1895: Augusto #Sandino was born. Led war for #Nicaragua #independence from US occupation. In 1920s, Sandino exiled in #Mexico. Joined #IWW #strikes there. Inspired by them, chose black & red colors of #anarchism for Sandinista flag. Assassinated by Somosa in 1934.
