Two wood ducks sitting on a tree branch in a pond. The female in drab brown plumage is in front and is looking to the viewer’s left. The male is in back, looking to the viewer’s right. You can see the green back of his head and his bright red eye, as well as the distinctive white making on his cheeks and chin.
Hello, Mister and Missus Wood Duck. Looking forward watching your babies leap out of a tree sometime soon.

Photo of a tree swallow sitting in a tree on a dead-looking branch, with various out of focus twigs around it. The bird is in strong sun, so the chest is vibrant white and the wing and back are iridescent blue/black/green.
The tree swallows are back at #SandyRidgeReservation, and this one was nice enough to sit still for me.
Not pictured: about 20 shots of the twigs crisply in focus in front of a blurry blob.
A small reddish-brown mink on top of a large dead tree trunk. It’s facing away from the camera, so it kind of looks like a squirrel and a ferret had some weird baby that wasn’t quite right.
A small reddish-brown mink on top of a large dead tree trunk. It’s out of focus and turning toward the camera, and it still kind of looks like a squirrel and a ferret had some weird baby that wasn’t quite right.
A small reddish-brown mink jumping down from a large dead tree trunk. It’s jumping toward the camera the camera, and you can really see that it looks like a squirrel where someone got all the proportions really wrong.
Excellent late afternoon of birding at #SandyRidgeReservation, but the highlight was a mammal. Guess who finally spotted a mink in the wild?
