My HO Model of Warbonnet Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe (ATSF) 356 was on the Tri-City Society of Model Engineers (TCSME) model railroad club in the historic Niles depot in Fremont, CA, on Friday, February 27, 2026. This is an Atlas model.
The real ATSF 356 was a GE U28CG. Reportedly it was built in 1966, builder's number 35999. In 1970 it was assigned to freight service and in 1972 it was repainted in Blue and Yellow. It was retired in 1980.

I wanted to make one short showing my Bachmann 2-8-0 and a nice passenger train of heavyweight coaches. It's a good little scene.

After getting this vintage Athearn Amtrak Sdp40f to work again, I decided to make this little scene to celebrate the new operating arrival. Makes a great scene for a 1973 Amtrak Train.

I saw an old Southern California poster from the Santa Fe Railroad and decided to recreate it with Jane.

It was a fun project to work on.

An evening view of The Depot Theater on Wyatt Earp Boulevard in Dodge City, Kansas, USA, showcases the building's historic charm and connection to the Old West heritage of the area. The theater, housed in a beautifully restored train depot, features classic brickwork and architectural details that reflect its vintage origins. Warm golden lights illuminate the arched windows and doors, creating a welcoming glow against the deep blue hues of the twilight sky. The name 'The Depot Theater' is prominently displayed above the main entrance, emphasizing its role as a cultural and historical centerpiece of Dodge City.

The surrounding environment enhances the theater's appeal, with the cobblestone pathway leading up to the entrance adding texture and character to the scene. Streetlights along the boulevard cast soft light onto the nearby pavement, subtly framing the theater and creating an inviting atmosphere. In the foreground, light trails from passing vehicles streak across the road, adding a sense of movement and energy that contrasts with the theater's timeless stillness. The reflection of these lights on the smooth surface of the street further enhances the dynamic composition.

To the side of the theater, small trees and neatly trimmed bushes accentuate the building's symmetry and offer a natural contrast to the urban environment. In the background, silhouettes of other historic buildings and signage contribute to the sense of place, reminding viewers of Dodge City's rich history as a significant location in the American West.

The image captures the balance between history and modernity, as the theater serves as a preserved piece of architectural history and a functioning venue for cultural and artistic performances. The soft ambient lighting and the vibrant streaks of vehicle lights create a captivating scene that highlights the vibrancy and warmth of Dodge City's cultural landmarks.
