Nova Scotia has <1% old-growth forest left. Some is right here at Sandy Lake, Bedford.

We also protect the new-growth forest, recovering from a 2013 clear-cut. It supports the watershed and will become old-growth one day.

Both are vital. Both need protection before it's too late.

Let's talk numbers. The proposed Sandy Lake park is a biodiversity haven:
βœ… 117 bird species
βœ… 24 Species At Risk/Concern
βœ… Rare old-growth forest

This is one of HRM's last great refuges. We need housing, but not by destroying what we can't replace.

Speak up.

Sandy Lake's inconvenient truth:
Water quality is at a tipping point. Watershed development will trigger a domino effect, damaging the entire ecosystem.
Reject the fantasy of harmless lakeside building.
Tell your MLA: choose the right path, not the easy one.

Let’s talk traffic!

The proposed development around Sandy Lake will make things much worse, especially along Hammonds Plains Rd.

People, air, water, and wildlife in the area would suffer as a result of the overloading of Hammonds Plains Road.

For decades, the Sackville Rivers Association has worked to restore wild salmon to the Sackville River. Tim Houston's authoritarian kleptocracy has given itself the power to destroy it again. #SaveSandyLake

New tool helps Islanders identify wetlands and know where development is restricted | CBC News The provincial Department of Environment has released a new, updated mapping tool to help Islanders identify areas where development is not allowed due to environmental concerns.

Too bad #Halifax didn't have this. We could see all the wetlands we've been destroying and are about to destroy so developers can pad their portfolios with more sprawl that we can't afford. #SaveSandyLake www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
