A blunderbuss in the library, abseiling out of dormitory windows, and a herd of photogenic cows…

‘Good Morning Sir!’

As we mark #SchoolArchivesDay, here are the pupils of St Thomas' School in Birmingham performing a 9am salute, back in the 19th or early 20th century.

In 1817 Aberford became part of the new system of National Schools offering elementary education to all children, and today it is a Church of England Primary School. You can find these records and more in our parish archives online: borthcat.york.ac.uk/parish-records #SchoolArchivesDay

The Borthwick holds the records of a wide variety of schools, from Quaker schools, to Grammars, to the York Blue and Grey Coat charitable schools, but did you know you can also find school records in our parish archives? One of the earliest survivals is Aberford School. #SchoolArchivesDay

Had a great time giving a talk to Princethorpe College students for #SchoolArchivesDay yesterday (and yes, that is an ‘archivist’ T-shirt I’m wearing!)

Our #SchoolArchivesDay display is also up until the end of term for students, staff and visitors to find out more about our wonderful collections.

UNK started out as a normal school, for teacher training, so we have a lot of education-related material. One collection is our Country School Legacy materials; we were part of an 8-state NEH project on rural education in the 1980s. Materials at openspaces.unk.edu/countryschoo... #SchoolArchivesDay

We're looking forward to taking part in the UK’s very first #SchoolArchivesDay next Wednesday!

We'll be holding a lunchtime talk for Princethorpe students, where we’ll explore some of the weird and wonderful events in the College's history (and possibly a ghost story or two!)
