I have the feeling that I will never be able to do a pull-up, have a strong hang time or a strong shoulder press. Last year, my left shoulder was injured. This year it's my right arm and once again not allowed to do any overhead work. #ScientistsWhoLift 😭
I had an awesome leg workout yesterday. Hip thrusts for the win.
Unfortunately, I had an awesome leg workout yesterday. Now, my husband has to hear my moans all day long. 😅 #ScientistsWhoLift
The day after starting a new training block/workout program at the gym. Those who know know. #ScientistsWhoLift
Finaly went to a physio today for an upper arm injury which has already been annoying me for months. Good news: Muscles are fine and I can do any exercise as long it doesn't hurt. Bad news: Axiliary nerve injury. Those buggers take ages to heal. #ScientistsWhoLift
On side of a barbell on the gym floor loaded with a white bumper plate and one blue 20 kg plate for deadlifts.
It is such a great feeling to finally be able to put the 29 kg plates on the barbell with confidence. #ScientistsWhoLift 🏋♀️💪
I feel weak today. The great deadlifting session yesterday probably pulled my plug. Strange to feel weak, but at the same time knowing I move weights which were impossible for me 3 months ago. #ScientistsWhoLift
130kg for 3 deadlift.
It is going back up but it's such a long way from my pre sickness levels haha.
Still, it's good to be back at the point of needing a lifting belt again
#scientistswholift
Two sessions down after the mother of all hiatuses from the gym.
At approx 50% for most lifts. Much work lays ahead...
However... I have earned this shower beer.
#scientistswholift
Now that I'm recovered and back to training, I think it might be time to re-awaken the old hastag #scientistswholift.
Used to be very active on Twitter but less so on here.
How can we study the body if we don't commit to training it? :P :P
A Smith machine in front of a mirror. In the mirror one can see me sitting on a bench, taking a selfie.
Getting a little workout done. The hotel gym is small, but pretty nice. #ScientistsWhoLift
My leg training was so good two days ago that I'll take public transport to the gym. I'm not placing that delicate glutei on a bicycle saddle today. And definitely only upper body today. #ScientistsWhoLift
We always gotta throw a little powerlifting into the mix.
Yesterday evening I hit a massive MASSIVE milestone at 352.7 lbs/160 kilos.
Next goal is 3 reds at 375, then to the big bad 400. #scientistswholift
A plate with a half eaten piece of banana bread and a cup of coffee on a table in a street cafe.
Getting ready for the destruction of my lower body. And tomorrow, I will ask myself: "Why???" 😄 #ScientistsWhoLift
One 25 g sample bag of kick speed booster from best body nutrition.
I love a good coffee before my workouts, but this is insane!! 25 g powder to mix with 300 ml water. 288 mg caffeine per serving!! Who needs that much caffeine? I am definitely not testing if I can tolerate this amount. #ScientistsWhoLift
Weight lifting isn't only physical, but also mental training. Today, I deadlifted a weight I haven't lifted in quite a while. My muscles could lift it, but after 4 reps I got scared of the weight and stopped. Next time, trying to break that mental barrier. #ScientistsWhoLift
Yesterday, I was so excited about my deadlift session. Today, I feel so destroyed. The session was too good. #ScientistsWhoLift
Great gym session today. Slowly getting the mental attitude back that I need to start lifting heavier. If my head says no to a weight, my muscle strength won't matter. Today, 60 kg deadlift (3 sets with 6 reps each). Finally, my head said yes again. #ScientistsWhoLift
Next ankle recovery level unlocked. I can now do a bodyweight squat without having to hold on to something. Not full ROM, but at least I don't fall backwards on my butt anymore 😄. And full ROM lunges are back 🥳 #ScientistsWhoLift
Yesterday, really good deadlift session at the gym. Getting out of bed this morning: not so good. Rediscovering some muscles 😁 #ScientistsWhoLift
The advantage of currently not being able to run: I can lift heavy because I don't have to consider that sore and tired muscles could negatively impact my next #running session. 1st week of my 12 week build program done. #ScientistsWhoLift
A gym with dumbbells, different machines, cable tower, benches, treadmill, etc.
I never thought "having a gym" would be one of my criteria for choosing a hotel. But here I am. Slowly starting with lower body work, but can't squat yet. Left ankle is still lacking mobility for that. #ScientistsWhoLift
"Don't think, just do"
Things that bring me joy before 9AM. 1h in own head. Moving and grooving with some 🏋️ 🤘 #academicathlete #scientistswholift #liftbeforeshift #riserowrunrepeat
!! I’ve lost 7 pounds on my cut so far !!
#ScientistsWhoLift
Bench press as the last exercise on an upper body is tough. But today the gym is so busy, I am happy that I get to use the bench press at all. #ScientistsWhoLift
First workout of 2025 done!
#scientistswholift
A flat bench set at a 45 degree angle. Two dumbbells are placed at one site. A white towel is placed onto the bench.
First time in the gym this year. #ScientistsWhoLift
Happy new year to all of you. May you achieve the personal progress that you really want to achieve. Not the progress others demand from you.
It’s been one crazy year and I’m glad yall were with me on this journey! Here’s to the next one I’m sure it’ll be an adventure! Happy New Year!! 🎆 #happynewyear #scientistswholift
I am sitting on a yoga mat. One can only see my feet and my lower legs up to the knees.
Last time in the gym this year. #ScientistsWhoLift
Continuing this series Getting A Job in Academia. Head to YouTube where I talk about the differences between R1 and R2 and PUI institutions but I tell you why R1 institutions aren’t the greatest places to work in my opinion!
#scientistswholift #academia
View of a weight tower of a seated rowing machine. My feet are also visible.
Enjoying a day at the gym. No running = plenty of time to work that upper body. #ScientistsWhoLift
