Yet again West Ardnamurchan delivered on the raptor front. 3 White-tailed and 2 Golden Eagles, plus buzzard, kestrel and peregrine entertained us in Kilchoan this morning. The north coast added Hen Harrier to the day’s list after lunch.

A kingfisher perched on a bare tree branch that has been cut short.
A rainbow in a clear, blue sky, reflected in the water of Montrose Basin.
A blue display board covered in old photos and news stories of Montrose Basin.
This week marks 50 years since we acquired Montrose Basin, which has since gone on to become one of our most important reserves for wildlife and people.
What memories do you have of this special place?

Five of the eight Taiga Bean Geese in a frosty field in Ayrshire. Such distinctive birds, completely different to Tundras
Had to call in to see the Taiga Bean octet in Ayrshire this morning to add to the haul in this winter of geese. And then onwards to Kintyre and a Russian Whitefront amongst 256 Greenlands at Rhunahaorine #goosing #scottishbirding
Ropey fuzzy long-range digiscoped pic of a winter-plumaged White-billed Diver on the sea, facing right.
A porpoise moving right dorsal fin and upper part of body visible above the water, showing the paler flank.
White-billed Diver off Portsoy this afternoon (and four Great Northerns). Also a porpoise - fairly frequent here but they stay similarly well offshore.

It's taken a wee while but at last found a single Tundra Bean in a flock of c1000 pinks off Robiesland Avenue Lanark this afternoon, for once the birds were a bit closer. Sound down, no idea why bsky creates so much noise on vids @clydesoc-grapevine.bsky.social #Scottishbirding #Clydebirding
Even better/closer views of Tay White-billed Diver today AM, with @lainy.bsky.social. Bird headed well out on river, few short flights (no flights Fri-Sat) just before ship passed through same area. Bird not seen since (3 hrs worth of looking E/W of castle to Stannergate). #Scottishbirding
Out early and managed to see the White-billed Diver found by @lainy.bsky.socialyesterday on the Tay between Stannergate & Douglas Terrace, Broughty Ferry. A few pics below...
If you're local...go and see the bird (VERY RARE!) - you'll likely need binos or a scope though.

Today’s White-billed Diver at Pease Bay, Borders, was a bit more cooperative than last year’s bird in that it hung around all afternoon. I wasn’t planning any birding so was regretting that my camera and phonescoping adapter were both in Penicuik 🤦♂️ #birding #scottishbirding
Geese were hard work today, single Russian whitefront in c1000 pinks at Douglas Water was all of note. Spent a while with this 1st winter peregrine near New Lanark after glimpsing the darvic, nearly an hour and a half before it gave it up @clydesoc-grapevine.bsky.social #Scottishbirding #Clydebirding
Another of these distant photos, ruddy shelduck today with c220 pinks below Eastfield Farm Pettinain, supporting cast of great egret, 2 little egret, 2 shelduck and 37 whoopers including the 2 Icelandic darviced birds @clydesoc-grapevine.bsky.social #Scottishbirding #Clydebirding

A few recents birds from Loch Fitty, a lone Whooper Swan, Loch Leven, Smew & Slavonian Grebe & Leven, White-billed Diver, shame it's been so dull weatherwise.

Mark Wilkinson trying to photograph WBD in the surf
A great trip out hoping to see some rare Scoters. Met up with Mark Wilkinson at Buckhaven, very few scoters there. So we moved to Leven to check the scoter flock & try & see Adam Hutt's White-billed Diver. Little did we know we would find our own, an adult bird in heavy moult.

Nine whitefronts today with 127 greylags at same location , 2 first winter birds probably missed one of them on Wednesday @clydesoc-grapevine.bsky.social #Scottishbirding #Clydebirding
8 Russian whitefronts in a mixed group of c220 geese predominantly greylag opp Coventry Fencing yard near Carstairs today. Group included 2 well marked adults and 1 first winter bird @clydesoc-grapevine.bsky.social #Clydebirds #Scottishbirding
Started the month with 2 Russian whitefront now finished month with same. Again distant but good enough images to show belly patterns are different despite only c800m from first birds, with 700 pinks at The Meetings Carnwath today. @clydesoc-grapevine.bsky.social #Scottishbirding #Clydebirding
Red head smew showing a bit closer today, seems to enjoy it's own company keeping well clear of all the other ducks frequenting the loch @clydesoc-grapevine.bsky.social #Scottishbirding #Clydebirding
An hour at Cairnbulg, Aberdeenshire, today in challenging conditions. Long-tailed Duck numbers are starting to build, with over 100 on show. Here are a few of them in various plumages #birdingscotland #birds #scottishbirding

Frustrated trying to nail these 2 in a flock of 57+ at Pettinain today, at full zoom on my P1000. Sure they are a pair. One has white darvic on right the other on left, could be 55&56 horizontal, hopefully help out there #KaneBrides #WaterbirdCM #Scottishbirding #Clydebirding
