I took this photo of the sea defences at Wallasey seafront on a much calmer day than today. They were put in place after storms had destroyed much of the seafront near the Mersey Estuary.

The sea defences below the Coastguard Cottages at Cuckmere Haven in 2013 photographed by Hilary Jacobs Wallace. A couple of wooden groynes stretch out from right to left and cliffs rise from the beach to green grassland above.
The same location now 2025 showing the collapsed sea wall ravaged by the action of the sea.
The first image is by Hilary Jacobs Wallace in 2013 and clearly shows the sea defenses at that time. The second was taken by me last week showing how the power of the sea has reduced those sea defences to rubble!

The green water turns white as it breaks in waves on the shore and swirls around the wooden groyne jutting out into the sea in humanities constant battle against the sea's demand for more land. Large rocks and sand in the foreground to protect and being protected. Long exposure has turned the moving water surface milky.
Under a blue sky, waves come crashing into the shore which here is being protected from Neptune's depredations of the land surface by large rocks.
Under a grey sky with the Isle of Wight in the distance, the green se repeatedly throws itself against The long stretch of Hurst Spit and closer to the viewer the sea wall protecting Milford-on-Sea from becoming part of the beach.
