βοΈπ° Before returning north for coffee & cake at the Sundials Festival, Harry the Roaming Roman explored the fort at #Segontium (AD77β78). Founded after Agricola defeated the Ordovices, it housed about 1,000 auxiliary soldiers. βDrills, walls, and roads β proper legionary fun!β ποΈ

Some great old photographs in the site's entry on the Coflein website, along with marvellous aerial views taken by @drtobydriver.bsky.social in dry conditions similar to yesterday's, showing the ghostly outlines of buildings & streets. The baths area was closed yesterday due to fire risk #Segontium
Strange to see the neat group of houses plonked incongruously on top of part of it, walls running under hedges into their gardens. Could do with detailed information boards so you know what you're looking at- barrack blocks, strong room etc.
