The hellbender is the largest salamander in North America. It hides under rocks in streams, protected by its remarkable camouflage. It's a game of spot the salamander whenever I (try to) see them at #SenecaParkZoo.

The snowy owls at #SenecaParkZoo have had a couple of chicks in the last few years, and it’s so funny to see the charcoal gray chicks next to their pure white parents.
My wife and I volunteer at #SenecaParkZoo in #RochesterNY. Our sweet girl, Katya passed recently at age 20—I believe the oldest tiger in conservation care currently and possibly ever.

This is probably my favorite shot of Jiwe, the large toddler, at #SenecaParkZoo. Even as a youngster, there was something grounded about such a large animal. I also loved the muted light in the barn. 🙂
We have several at #SenecaParkZoo, and they are adorable goofballs. Labs with webbed feet. 😏
Our breeding pair had pups last spring, and they are ridiculously cute. They’re at SPZ as part of the North American River Otter reintroduction project, started in the 1980s.

North American River Otter at the Seneca Park Zoo. Not sure, but I think this is one of the pups born there last spring. They are goofy any silly and all kinds of fun to watch.

If you've hung around zoos at all (my wife and I both volunteer at ours), you'll find keepers have odd senses of humor. The female red tail at #SenecaParkZoo is named Toni Hawk. Sometimes the name are educational, sometimes cultural, and sometimes just goofy.
Elephant eye
One of the girls (I forget which) at #SenecaParkZoo, from 2010. Elephants and rhinos are both pachyderms, literally "thick skin". Elephant eyes appear so ancient and wise—they are gentle giants.

The first two shots are of Anoki the polar bear enjoying her fishsicle, and the last shot is Kaba the snow leopard chilling out in the snow.
Currently I do a lot of volunteer work for the #SenecaParkZoo. Animals are . . . unpredictable.

Timber, the male grey wolf at #SenecaParkZoo has decided he doesn’t like me, and you can’t argue with a wolf. Whenever he sees me, he ducks into a hidden walkway at the back of the enclosure. Pretty sure he wants to stay 100 yards away from me.
Oh my. We haven't had Bill and Roscoe for ages. Now we have Jiwe, who is still a youngster. Bill was sent off to make babies somewhere down south.
