Larne were looking for a win or a draw to claim promotion for the third season on the bounce, a remarkable achievement. Randalstown, despite being in the hunt for most of the seaason, had dropped off the pace in recent weeks but they were always going to be a danger having beaten Larne in the Senior Cup in their last visit to Larne Grammar.
