Success for the England over 70s in the #SilverAshes #Ashes & the over70s World Cup.
Big season ahead with the over60s & over70s #CountyChampionship with more entries than ever.

"Veterans"?
More like the youth programme for the _real_ Seniors!

Good win for the over 60s 3rds to set up a Vase semi final with neighbours Middlesex.

Now the #cricket adventure begins - Night Riviera Sleeper...
🚂🛌...🏏
This is interesting.
I have been watching some of my #SeniorsCricket team mates running 3s recently — so demoralising for oppo teams who sometimes struggle to run singles — and this suggests ways we could run between the wickets even better.

Thanks to James of Cricket Matters (not on here?)
We have had our “heatwave warning” fro next week’s #SeniorsCricket fixtures — “Where…the maximum forecast temperature is 33° or higher for the day of the match the game must be cancelled.”
Home games currently forecasting 33°!

Cricket match beneath a bright blue sky.
Lovely day at Potten End.
Red kites circling & calling overhead (until it got too warm!).

Come friendly bombs...
From the Welsh bowlers?
💣🏴
Off to Hellingly, today - 8 miles N from Eastbourne.
#SeniorsCricket
Currently sat in a café with a mocha. Start delayed to 2pm.
The weather won't stop us (not 2 weeks in a row, anyway...)...although if the forecast for persistent showers until after 4pm is right we might end up with a 20 over shoot-out.
#SeniorsCricket
Remarkable set of results for the #SeniorsCricket this week.
Victories by 145 runs, 7 wickets (with 18 overs in hand), 127 runs, 173 runs, and 108 runs, from 1st to 5th XI, respectively.
#ChairmansJug will have to await the over70s results later today.

An early return to @merstham.cricket (and the excellent teas), yesterday, and a comfortable win for Essex #SeniorsCricket 4th XI.
We played well, but the opposition just had one of those days - late batting cry-offs and a nasty looking injury to their skipper and opening bat (before he got to bat).
Whereas I am off to Merstham again (quirk of the fixtures - 5s away vs Surrey last Wednesday, 4s away vs Surrey today).
V.nice setting, super tea, and I do now know my way there, plus the location of a rather nice café for brunch, if I get there in time.
Go well.

Long line of charity walkers, most wearing white t-shirts & bright blue caps, walking through leafy parkland in bright sunshine...not as warm as it looked, however!
Cricket on the outfield. Lots of school children playing cricket on the outfield at the County Ground, Chelmsford. Bright sunshine and a clear blue sky.
In Chelmsford today with #RonsMarch for @prostatecanceruk.bsky.social , along with 90 fellow walkers from Chelmsford Walking Football Club & Essex #SeniorsCricket.
Now at the @essexcricket.bsky.social County Ground for #ESSvYOR...but first, mass cricket on the outfield at lunch.
Cricket ground under stormy grey clouds.
This is how it looks now. Clouds overhead, and the North Downs offering little shelter from the cold north easterly.
Strained quad, aching back...

Cricket pitch with players in whites practicing on the outfield, beneath a blue sky with high white clouds.
Lovely #CricketGround tucked in the lee of the North Downs at @merstham.cricket

Cricket game in progress. Green field surrounded by trees, long shadows reaching across the ground, beneath a bright blue aky with just a line of wispy, white, clouds. In England. In April.
First run out of the year for #SeniorsCricket. Intra-club game, ahead of selection for 3s & 4s. 🏏🌞
And a fine tea!!
🥪🍰👍
Ooh. Harsh being called “veteran” at 26!
In #SeniorsCricket, you’d probably only be considered a veteran once you made the over 70s.👴
Then again, the over 50s are our “youth team”!
#cricket nets yesterday — 45 minutes against the bowling machine…probably the longest I’ll bat all season!
Middled a few, missed a couple. Stiff neck & top hand — I can bowl for 90 minutes quite happily, but batting is still hard work.
#SeniorsCricket
#cricket nets today; 80 minutes bowling, perhaps 50-60 balls (8-10 overs), off a very truncated run.
First bowl of the year with batters (other than net bowling for u13s), so focused on getting them playing.

Early prediction for 2035 - #SeniorsCricket (over 50s & older) will be thriving...I might even get a "run" out with the over-70s (if I can still run in 10 years!).
There's always #WalkingCricket!
For people like you and me, cricket will go on in August.
(Unless we get eliminated in the first knock-out round of the newly re-vamped #SeniorsCricket County Champs).
But will there be as many days of professional cricket, especially away from the 100 hosts, to catch new spectators?
We will see.
This is what we need more of on bluesky - #SeniorsCricket !
Gold-coloured medal, with “3 lions” crest & England Cricket Seniors, and 60+ 4th XI WINNER 2024
Mementoes from a truncated #cricket season.
A championship medal with Essex #SeniorsCricket 4th XI.
And an “…oblique grade III tear in the posterior horn of the [left] medial meniscus extending to the inferior articular surface.”
Speaking to GP next week, but (per Google AI) grade III needs an op…☹️
The #SeniorsCricket season is approaching, and the indefatigable Ron Hedley is on the march again in support of the Bob Willis Fund and the campaign for prostate screening with Prostate Cancer UK.
