me thinking about the people who didn’t attend #Sequoia2024 and their thoughts on trust in exchange
We’ve been asking a lot of hard questions at #Sequoia2024, but this one from Sequoia Project is certainly the most challenging.
Diverse panel, with @pbabbrah.bsky.social discussing the key (evolving?) role of pharmacists during COVID pandemic and beyond, and @fhirball.bsky.social sharing his personal stake in the success of TEFCA to make real the notion whole person care.

“Do you want to be ahead of the tipping point or do you want to be scrambling”, Nichole Sweeney of CRISP on the state patchwork relating to data exchange in a post-Dodd world, and what we can do to prepare.

Speaking of amazing workgroups, I am very excited for our white paper to be published on consent. #Sequoia2024
I got nothing.

I’m the first to admit how little I actually know, but I am so privileged and humbled to serve as a member on two of these #InteroperabilityMatters workgroups.
#Sequoia2024
I was hoping this panel would outline lessons learned for future conflicts. We’re ultimately talking about maturity of the dispute resolution process. Do purposeful deviations (e.g., airing grievances publicly) by interested parties need consequences?
#Sequoia2024
I don't agree with the #Sequoia2024 panel here - this idea of "everyone's conflicted" doesn't have to be true.
It's worth the effort to have some backstop to disagreement processes that are both independent and informed.
TEFCA has this with onboarding. I think we need it in more places.
In the billions.
Incredible metrics of record exchange. Testament to the collaboration and facilitation by Carequality staff and their members.

Loved the What is treatment? Panel at #sequoia2024. The discussion, and discourse was great. Thinking about pharmacists joining TEFCA and many points brought up during the panel apply. Pharmacists accessing data. What is treatment? Excited to kick off the new Sequoia Pharmacy Interop WG in spring!
Reality TV is supposed to be cringe and I would like to thank each of the panelists for delivering.

If you took the under for a FHIR pun in the QHIN dating game, congrats on the easy win.
#Sequoia2024
If you thought the QHIN Dating Game wasn’t going to be able to be serious…I think you’re right.
Kinda nice everyone is tongue in cheek about this and leaning into it.
Also really glad our CEO is taking one for the team so me or someone else didn’t have to. 😶

Disagreeing with Alan Swenson in that I believe directories are exciting and sexy. #Sequoia2024
If I came to #Sequoia2024 thinking I would leave with a better understanding Trust and Treatment, full disclosure: I only have more questions.
A lot more purposeful deliberation and dialogue is necessary. All solutions need to strike a balance of burden and trust. This is a start.
Don’t let the dark lighting fool you, it’s all eyes on the definition of Treatment.

Great question by Dr. Steven Lane talks about how CDA exchange needs to move to one that is FHIR-based. How do we reconcile that for PH given the limited resources of public health agencies?
#Sequoia2024
The three public health agencies live July 1 on TEFCA via CRISP received NO returned data for public health. Nothing.
And it’s already a tremendous ask to get them to participate.

Looking forward to learning more about the Consumer Engagement pledge mentioned by Cathriona Dolphin-Dempsey as a deliverable from the #InteropMatters workgroup.
#Sequoia2024
Amen.
Anna McCollister asks THE question that we need to be asking every day.
We have laws, regs, policies. We have incredibly engaged and informed patients.
And patients have to devote the time and energy (that they do *not* have) to receive and share records they need.

@mickytripathi.bsky.social just quieted the room by solving a treatment hypothetical in citing the TEFCA Treatment definition in the XP SOP.
#Sequoia2024
This panel on defining #Treatment is SPIRITED and I am HERE for it.
Per @fhirball.bsky.social this clearly needs rethink and is worthy of our time and effort.
