Help Piping Plovers nest and thrive on our beaches! ποΈ You can #SharetheShore to protect this NY State-endangered bird by keeping your dog on leash and off nesting grounds, and respecting symbolic fencing. Check out these great tips on how to keep this adorable bird safe from @gothamist.com:
Soon the oystercatchers will return. These beach nesting birds like several other species usually face conflicts with humans during the summer. As a result, numbers have declined. As we approach warmer seasons please remember to share the shore. #sharetheshore #bird #oystercatcher #wildlife #nature
Up at Stormont earlier, discussing #ShareTheShore - some day we'll win, and let the people access their beach!
Beagle on the lovely beach at Greenisland, with the StenaLine ferry and the actual Green Island in the background. The morning sun is low, casting interesting shadows from the rocks and seaweed.
And yet they still can't be arsed letting the people of Greenisland actually go to the actual Green Island - still blocked off by NIMBYs with collusion of councillors. Come on, people, sort it out. #ShareTheShore and give the Green Island back to Greenisland! @abdullahsabri.bsky.social
F***ing NIMBYs. So it's not just Northern Ireland. #ShareTheShore, people. It's not that hard.

Sunrise over Greenisland Secret Beach
Switching the #ShareTheShore hashtag to #ShareOurShore because the former appears to also be used by a naturist organisation, and down on the beach today, things would be in danger of dropping off with the cold!
Beach glass from the secret beach in Greenisland - so secret, nobody even knows that Greenisland is named for an actual Green Island (Inishglass) that you can walk across to at low tide. Except the Council don't want to upset some of the neighbours by allowing you to do this. It's a complete disgrace, but you ARE welcome any time - please visit! See you on the beach :-) #ShareOurShore #ShareTheShore
Beach glass collection from the Secret Beach in #Greenisland near #Carrickfergus that the Council don't want you to know about, and certainly don't want you to enjoy or get on or off. I particularly like the wee windmill crockery fragment :-) #ShareTheShore #ShareOurShore #RightToRoam
Beach - your next exit point is over 2km away!
Belfast Lough shimmering in morning sun
Lovely day on the beach, yet no safe access or egress for over 2km! Time to bring @meabc.bsky.social to court to restore historic access. Safety demands we #ShareTheShore
Council committee simply accepted a flawed health & safety report that did not address its actual remit, and failed to get a commentary from its own Health & Safety Officer. This will be part of our legal action against @meabc.bsky.social #ShareTheShore www.northernirelandworld.com/news/people/...
People fixing things and sharing how to fix things - how will the billionaires make their money? Won't someone ever think of the billionaires?
Happy people who fix things and share things and like a nice walk on the beach (even if @meabc.bsky.social forbid them) will be the death of rampant capitalism. #ShareTheShore #RightToRepair
Beagle on a beach
Also, if we have any Blueskyers who are lawyers familiar with rights-of-way issues in Northern Ireland, I think we have a *great* case, if the Council vote the wrong way on this. #ShareTheShore #Greenisland
Meeting pack here (p233+). The conclusion of the "health & safety" report is flat wrong. You don't increase safety by *restricting* egress from the beach at high tide - absolutely bonkers! @meabc.bsky.social please vote YES and #ShareTheShore! www.midandeastantrim.gov.uk/downloads/me...
No Northern Ireland :-( #ShareTheShore
Windy shore
Beagle on a beach
Charlee and I are first down on the very windy Forbidden Beach at Greenisland this morning! Low tide is a bit high today, but #ShareTheShore anyway π
This is such a sweet photo and artwork!

Next week @meabc.bsky.social Neighbourhoods and Communities Committee will vote on providing access to the beach at #Greenisland - denied to residents, ratepayers, families for so long. Here's the song - dear Councillors, VOTE YES to #ShareTheShore! youtu.be/hAHxlvpM0b4?...
Beach at Greenisland looking towards Belfast
Happy 12th from the Forbidden Community Beach at Greenisland - hopefully families will be eventually allowed to walk their dogs on the Traditional Route that has been shut off for so long. #ShareTheShore
π Kicking off the long weekend with some bird-approved rest!
ABC will be closed July 4β7 so our team can recharge & do a little birdwatching.
π Love birds? We do, too. Celebrate & #ShareTheShore!
Leftover litter isn't cute (even if these Piping Plovers are).
Have a safe, bird-friendly holiday!
Northern Ireland Public Rights of Way, eg access to the beach at #Greenisland, "asserted" or "deemed dedication" are being eroded all the time. Know your legal rights/duties! #ShareTheShore @meabc.bsky.social @belfasttelegraph.co.uk @bbcnireland.bsky.social www.nidirect.gov.uk/articles/pub...
Thanks @belfasttelegraph.co.uk @abdullahsabri.bsky.social for this excellent summary of where we're at with #ShareTheShore. Neighbours, residents, families are massively in favour of restoring access to our community beach at Greenisland. Hopefully not much longer to wait!
Shorebirds are actively nesting now. Humans needs to learn to share the shore. Please donβt ignore signage. Keep kids/dogs away from roped areas. No quads/bikes. Pick up your trash. Least terns from a few years ago. Males offer fish to a potential mate. #sharetheshore #bird #tern #wildlife #nature
Here is a wee #ShareTheShore QR code that will take you directly to the @meabc.bsky.social consultation form that you can use to say YES to beach access at #Greenisland. @aaron-skinner.bsky.social @scdicksonmla.bsky.social @maevedonnelly.bsky.social @dannydonnelly1.bsky.social
The sun rises over Belfast Lough at Greenisland
Please vote YES for safe beach access! Our beautiful shore belongs to everyone, and should not be barred off. #ShareTheShore
Here are some reasons to say YES... #ShareTheShore github.com/shanemuk/car...
A beagle on a beach. The tide is out, the sun is shining, and the sky is a beautiful blue. Where would you rather be? #ShareTheShore is a hashtag adopted by local residents of Greenisland near Carrickfergus to campaign for access to our (i.e. owned by the Council) beach, that is currently closed off and inaccessible to residents who live a matter of metres away. We have to trespass or climb high forbidding fences just to access what is on our doorstep. We want residents and visitors to be able to experience the beauty of our shoreline, to be able to enjoy and care for our environment and neighbourhood. The benefits to physical and mental health, as well as a sense of community, are self-evident. Please visit the consultation, fill out the form, and say YES! Thank you! Oh, and share the heck out of this - we want as many people as possible to see this and #ShareTheShore https://www.midandeastantrim.gov.uk/things-to-do/parks/countryside-access/public-right-of-way
#ShareTheShore just got real! @meabc.bsky.social Mid&East Antrim Council have launched a consultation on opening up long-denied pedestrian access to our beautiful forbidden beach.
www.midandeastantrim.gov.uk/things-to-do... - please give your views (i.e. YES!!!).
Thanks, and please REPOST!

Some photos from the (forbidden) Green Island this morning. Hoping @meabc.bsky.social get access sorted soon so we can #ShareTheShore- it's far too lovely to be left to just those of us prepared to naughtily climb over the gate...
Piping Plovers are small shorebirds. The nest in the sand above the high tide line. Cryptic coloring helps them blend in. As people become more active as summer approaches be reminded to share the shore. Give them space to raise their babies. #bird #pipingplover #nature #wildlife #sharetheshore
