Greenisland Beach at Low tide
NIMBYs are *always* gonna do their thing. We have a problem in my neighbourhood - people from one side of the road can't access the beach that people on the other side can. The arguments from the "protectors" blocking access are total nonsense. #ShareOurShore

Greenisland beach, looking towards Belfast. Windy and wild, with the waves crashing in the middle ground, Belfast's skyline in the distance, and an overcast sky. We are STILL no further on with the Council @meabc.bsky.social making zero moves to uphold the Asserted Public Right of Way at 87 Shore Road, meaning that if you were to follow the beach north-east from here, it would be over 2km before you would have a safe point of exit from the beach to the Shore Road. It remains a disgrace that Council have not acted to protect the blockade of this essential PRoW, despite huge public support. Mid & East Antrim Borough Council are in breach of the law and their own stated policy, and this fact will form part of a formal complaint we (residents) intend to lodge with Council. We have several proposals that will resolve the issue, but we will NOT accept another brush-off. #ShareOurShore

I'm delighted so many people love #Beach #Photography! We're lucky to live beside a beautiful Northern Irish beach, but unlucky because the council allowed one resident to block the only Public Right of Way for 2.5km, denying access to >100 households who live just yards from this. #ShareOurShore

Seals on the rocky point at Seapark, Greenisland (Inishglass), near Carrickfergus. Unfortunately the Council won't enforce their own Public Right of Way policy, so we have to trespass to access our own community's beach. Please share YOUR stories of when you were able to get down to the beach - it's all useful evidence and local history :-)
These guys hang out literally a few hundred yards from my door, but we have to walk a round trip of over 2km to be able to see them, thanks to the greedy blockade of our Public Right of Way to our beach at Greenisland (Inishglass). #ShareOurShore

We have some real jaw-dropping evidence; we have proposed very reasonable resolutions (ignored so far). Hoping Minister @andrewmuirni.bsky.social can get @meabc.bsky.social to see sense. This could be solved *tomorrow*. #ShareOurShore

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council are in breach of their statutory duty to preserve public rights of way by not restoring access to the beach in the vicinity of the Green Island. We are preparing legal action to a/ compel them to restore at least one access point as a Public Right of Way; b/ compensate >100 households for >30 years of neglect of this issue; c/ provide additional beach access points between the road and the coast at appropriate locations. It's time to #ShareTheShore / #ShareOurShore

Beach glass from the secret beach in Greenisland - so secret, nobody even knows that Greenisland is named for an actual Green Island (Inishglass) that you can walk across to at low tide. Except the Council don't want to upset some of the neighbours by allowing you to do this. It's a complete disgrace, but you ARE welcome any time - please visit!
