Outstanding video from @stephenjreid.bsky.social about the scandalous governmental neglect for our outdoors in Northern Ireland. This ties in to our battle over blockades of what minimal Public Rights of Way we do have in NI, eg #Greenisland Shore Rd. #ShareOurShore www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQzp...
Yet some elected representatives (we have this in Greenisland) collude with NIMBYs and developers to prevent the riffraff accessing, enjoying, caring for the shore. Greed and stupidity, killing townscape character & the green environment. #ShareOurShore
Greenisland Beach at Low tide
NIMBYs are *always* gonna do their thing. We have a problem in my neighbourhood - people from one side of the road can't access the beach that people on the other side can. The arguments from the "protectors" blocking access are total nonsense. #ShareOurShore
Low tide 15:01 at Carrickfergus/Greenisland - rain is over, Charlee and I will be going back to the Secret Beach! Who knows what we might find..? :-) #ForbiddenBeach #ShareOurShore www.bbc.co.uk/weather/coas...

Funky little adorable glass bottle neck on the Secret Beach this morning. 😍 #Greenisland #ShareOurShore #seaglass #BeachGlass
Greenisland Beach, low sand state...
Fossil ripples
Beach lost a lot of sand in the recent storms, but it exposed a piece of older beach from millions of years ago! #Greenisland #ShareOurShore
Little dead porpoise at Greenisland Beach :-( Reported to @daera-ni.gov.uk - @meabc.bsky.social - it's at Jointure Bay near the NI Water gate that we have to climb over to #ShareOurShore BT38 8TZ.
Greenisland beach, looking towards Belfast. Windy and wild, with the waves crashing in the middle ground, Belfast's skyline in the distance, and an overcast sky. We are STILL no further on with the Council @meabc.bsky.social making zero moves to uphold the Asserted Public Right of Way at 87 Shore Road, meaning that if you were to follow the beach north-east from here, it would be over 2km before you would have a safe point of exit from the beach to the Shore Road. It remains a disgrace that Council have not acted to protect the blockade of this essential PRoW, despite huge public support. Mid & East Antrim Borough Council are in breach of the law and their own stated policy, and this fact will form part of a formal complaint we (residents) intend to lodge with Council. We have several proposals that will resolve the issue, but we will NOT accept another brush-off. #ShareOurShore
Greenisland Beach earlier this morning - a windy one! The gulls were doing their best though. #ShareOurShore

You find lots of interesting wee shells on Greenisland Beach, near Carrickfergus
Looking towards the Belfast Hills at low tide from Greenisland beach.
Oops - looks like the boat is flooded! Greenisland Beach with the Green Island itself in the background (low tide, so it's connected to the mainland)
I'm delighted so many people love #Beach #Photography! We're lucky to live beside a beautiful Northern Irish beach, but unlucky because the council allowed one resident to block the only Public Right of Way for 2.5km, denying access to >100 households who live just yards from this. #ShareOurShore
I timed my run perfectly this morning, so the 563 bus from Carrickfergus could douse me with the entire contents of an enormous puddle. So no photos from the bedraggled run - here is our lovely Secret Beach instead... #Strava #ShareOurShore strava.app.link/eDqBS2B2PZb
Seals on the rocky point at Seapark, Greenisland (Inishglass), near Carrickfergus. Unfortunately the Council won't enforce their own Public Right of Way policy, so we have to trespass to access our own community's beach. Please share YOUR stories of when you were able to get down to the beach - it's all useful evidence and local history :-)
These guys hang out literally a few hundred yards from my door, but we have to walk a round trip of over 2km to be able to see them, thanks to the greedy blockade of our Public Right of Way to our beach at Greenisland (Inishglass). #ShareOurShore

Beautiful morning for it! Here is the lovely Greenisland beach where @meabc.bsky.social are shamefully refusing to enforce the existing Public Right of Way at 87 Shore Road, preventing most residents from accessing their shore. #ShareOurShore keeps up the fight for public access to nature.
Thanks! Write to the Council, tell your friends, post on socials, write to the media - that MEABC are neglecting their statutory duties, and walk the beach :-) #ShareOurShore
Another superb morning at Torytown Beach, Greenisland-Carrickfergus. My next insane project - get Council to create the Island-to-Monument (Knockagh) Trail as a proper thing...remove the barriers! #ShareOurShore
Single Transferable Vote - retains constituency focus, promotes consensus politics, protects against extremists, doesn't assume that Jo Public aligns him/her/themself with "parties"; already working in Northern Ireland (albeit on a 6-per-constituency basis for our MLAs). #ShareOurShore

Not another sinner on Greenisland Secret Beach this morning apart from uber-sinners Charlee & me... #Carrickfergus #ShareOurShore
Classic NIMBY responses - very similar to why our Council refuse to restore access to our community beach in Co Antrim due to lobbying from vocal naysayers, even though >90% of local residents want it. Bench looks brilliant. #ShareOurShore
The beautiful tidal beach at Greenisland Co Antrim, looking towards the Belfast hills. Residents have a Public Right of Way onto this beach, but Council have refused to remove the gate that is blocking our rightful access.
We have some real jaw-dropping evidence; we have proposed very reasonable resolutions (ignored so far). Hoping Minister @andrewmuirni.bsky.social can get @meabc.bsky.social to see sense. This could be solved *tomorrow*. #ShareOurShore

Switching the #ShareTheShore hashtag to #ShareOurShore because the former appears to also be used by a naturist organisation, and down on the beach today, things would be in danger of dropping off with the cold!
We're kicking this up a gear. We have solid documentary evidence that @meabc.bsky.social have (knowingly) FAILED in their *statutory* duties in relation to Public Rights of Way, and are taking this to @daera-ni.gov.uk before commencing legal action. #ShareOurShore

Beagle on the beach at Greenisland. Mid and East Antrim Borough Council are in breach of their statutory duty to preserve public rights of way by not restoring access to the beach in the vicinity of the Green Island. We are preparing legal action to a/ compel them to restore at least one access point as a Public Right of Way; b/ compensate >100 households for >30 years of neglect of this issue; c/ provide additional beach access points between the road and the coast at appropriate locations. It's time to #ShareTheShore / #ShareOurShore
Nice low tide this morning - looks like a good one to jump the gate and walk the pup down on our community beach. It is WAY past time @meabc.bsky.social fulfilled their *statutory duty* to #ShareOurShore. See you down there! www.bbc.co.uk/weather/coas...
Beach glass from the secret beach in Greenisland - so secret, nobody even knows that Greenisland is named for an actual Green Island (Inishglass) that you can walk across to at low tide. Except the Council don't want to upset some of the neighbours by allowing you to do this. It's a complete disgrace, but you ARE welcome any time - please visit! See you on the beach :-) #ShareOurShore #ShareTheShore
Beach glass collection from the Secret Beach in #Greenisland near #Carrickfergus that the Council don't want you to know about, and certainly don't want you to enjoy or get on or off. I particularly like the wee windmill crockery fragment :-) #ShareTheShore #ShareOurShore #RightToRoam
