- They became close fairly quicky after Shears joined Avalanche, bonding over having lost their families and becoming leaders of the groups that adopted them. Shears became Elfe's other second-in-command within a year. - Shears was the one most opposed to working with Rufus when he first approached them, while Elfe was more on the fence about it (Fuhito was in favor of it, already thinking about how he could use Rufus to his advantage). Eventually she makes a deal with Rufus because they really needed the money but she still had her doubts. She was also worried about how Shears feel about her decision but he reassured her that he'll stick with her no matter what. - When Shears came back after being beaten by Rude and Reno in chapter 4, Elfe fussed over him a lot. This was the first time she's seen him injured this badly and he commented on how now she knows how he feels whenever he saw her have one of her seizures. They shared their first kiss while she was tending his wounds. - They had sex for the first time the night Chelsea left. That sense of "betrayal" triggered Elfe's fear of abandonment and she needed to physically feel their closeness. - She learned about Shears' death from the Player Turk and with everything else she's been through, it sent her into a deep depressive phase. It was only through having Veld's care and support that she was able to recover and they worked through their grief together. They eventually travel to Cosmo Canyon together and send off a couple of lanterns for Shears and Elfe's mother.
