Nook News – 3/23/26 | Neptunia’s Fifth Mainline RPG Announced
#### Visual Novel News:
The founder of VNDB, Yorhel, has passed away. This is a huge loss for the community. They created an amazing resource for fans of visual novels and we can only imagine the amount of time and effort they must have put into maintaining it. Without their work, information about the medium wouldn’t be anywhere near as accessible as it is today.
Our condolences go out to their friends and family. VNDB itself stands as a living legacy to their efforts, and we hope it continues to stand as a testament to their passion, growing with every new entry and update.
The VNDB staff have assured the community that they are exploring channels to preserve the website which Yorhel put so much work into. More details to come at a later time.
Rest in Peace, Yorhel.

Shiravune have announced the upcoming international release of Gyaru Fiction (_Gals Fiction_) by Jitaku Studio, the same developer behind Real Anime Situation! 2 and Real Anime Situation! DT, which Shiravune previously released.
_Long ago, Hatsune Nijo awakened to a love of gyaru at an early age. As a result, after he tagged along on his parents’ long-term business reassignment and moved away from his hometown, he eventually began cross-dressing as a gyaru. One day, his little sister Tsukune suggested that he transfer to her school, which had recently started allowing students to attend in their everyday clothes. Idea Factory have announced they will be releasing the otome visual novel 9 R.I.P sequel on Nintendo Switch physically and digitally in 2026. This sequel will include 9 full routes, including direct continuations of the previous Heavenly and Godly Endings from 9 R.I.P. Additionally, the sequel introduces new sub characters and bonus content that can be unlocked as fans navigate through the story.

Kagura Games has announced that they will be releasing Sumire’s Secret (_Kare ni wa Ienai Chijoku no Kankei ~Gomenne, Watashi Sensei no Mono ni Sarechatta…~_) by Soft Circle Courreges.

#### Gaming News:
After 11 long years and countless spin-offs, Idea Factory and Compile Heart have finally announced the fifth mainline title in the _Hyperdimension Neptunia_ franchise. This new entry is titled _Neptunia Unlimited_ and tells the story about the end of Gamindustri after a meteorite crashes into the planet. The only survivor is series protagonist, Neptune, and she’s given what’s called a Retry, giving her a second chance to save her world and the many allies she’s made. The game’s main cast have received new designs, as well as introducing some brand new character based on the ninth console generation. The game looks to utilise an enhanced version of the combat system from _Neptunia Sisters vs. Sisters_ , with the addition of letting you fly in the character’s transformed states across the in-game environments.
_Neptunia Unlimited_ releases for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch 2, and Nintendo Switch in Japan on August 27th. No Western release has been announced at this time.

We’ve got some bad news for _Fate_ fans looking forward to the remake of _Fate/EXTRA_. TYPE-MOON have announced that _Fate/EXTRA Record_ will no longer release this Spring and has been delayed to an unknown date. The good news is that the remake is still being worked on, with us getting an announcement of the new publisher and updated release date in the future.
After Bandai Namco released all three of the promised DLC packages for _Digimon Story: Time Stranger_ , it turns out we’re getting more content in the future. A large-scale DLC expansion for _Digimon Story: Time Stranger_ has been confirmed and while no details were shared, we do know it will be released sometime in 2027.
We’re now less than one year away until _Sonic the Hedgehog_ returns to the big screen in _Sonic the Hedgehog 4_. In the announcement, we got our first details on the main cast for _Sonic the Hedgehog 4_, with us now knowing that Jim Carrey will be returning to play Dr. Robotnik, along with Keanu Reeves reprising his role as Shadow the Hedgehog. On top of that, Ben Kingsley, Matt Berry, Nick Offerman, and Richard Ayoade will be joining the cast as currently unknown characters.
_Sonic the Hedgehog 4_ releases in theatres on March 19th, 2027.
On the topic of _Sonic the Hedgehog_ , we’ve gotten some updates for new content coming to _Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds_. The next three free DLC characters were announced: Red from _Angry Birds_ , Goro Majima from _Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza_ , and Arle from _Puyo Puyo_ will released across April and May, with each of them getting a new vehicle as well. But before that, the next paid DLC content pack for the game is releasing before the end of the month. _Mega Man_ and Proto Man are joining the game’s roster, with them also bringing a new race track based on Dr. Wily’s castle stages from the original games.
The _Mega Man_ DLC for _Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds_ will be available on March 25th.

_Guilty Gear -Strive-_ is getting some huge updates with us getting details on the 2.0 release of the game. This new update will bring with it new mechanics like Wild Assault and Counter Blitz, as well as giving characters new special moves to enhance their arsenal. New costume colours, short stories, and UI customisation is also included, with a Blazing Pass that promises seasonal rewards starting this May. But that wasn’t all, as we also got the announcement of the game’s fifth season of DLC content. Releasing on the same day as the 2.0 update, Jam will be making her grand return, with us also getting confirmation that Robo-Ky and two other unannounced characters will be a part of this fifth season pass.

We got more information on Arc System Works’ new fighting game: _Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls_. Peni Parker, along with her SP//dr mech are joining the game’s roster and a stage set in Knowhere was also confirmed to be featured. An automatic team naming feature was also announced, which dynamically changes the name of your four-person team depending on the characters you’ve chosen.
_Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls_ launches for PlayStation 5 and PC on August 6th.

New DLC is coming to the sequel to _Under Night In-Birth_. _Under Night In-Birth II: Sys:Celes_ gave us a brief tease of a new DLC character who’ll be releasing sometime in 2026.

The third DLC character coming to _Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves’_ second season pass got a trailer ahead of their release. Blue Mary’s gameplay was showcased in this brief trailer, along with the announcement of the game getting a special collab music track from R3HAB.
The Blue Mary character DLC will be available for _Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves_ on March 26th.

#### Anime News:
The anime adaptation of FromSoftware’s _Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice_ got some new updates. Along with us getting a new trailer for the adaptation, it was also announced that the song Blu from the late Ryuichi Sakamoto will be used as the adaptation’s theme song.
_Sekiro: No Defeat_ will premiere on Crunchyroll in 2026.

An updated version of _Super Mario Bros. Wonder_ is releasing for Nintendo Switch 2 this week. _Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park_ includes the original game, but with more modes to play and Rosalina being added to the playable roster. You and up to three other friends can take part in all-new multiplayer modes like tag, collecting the most coins, or passing a Bob-omb between each other to get to the goal.
_Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park_ is coming exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on March 26th.
The next legacy collection in the _Mega Man_ franchise is ready for release this week. _Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection_ collects all three of the _Mega Man Star Force_ games that originally released for the Nintendo DS into one convenient package. This new version will also include online multiplayer where you can search for matches across all three games, as well as more slots for the game’s Brother mechanic.
_Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection_ releases for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on March 27th.
