This is both a #ShitPostTTRPG and an earnest way of highlighting some of my favorite indie TTRPGs and game designers.

I'm so excited to share it with y'all - I hope you'll follow along and find it as fun as I do.
Who knows? Your new favorite #TTRPG could be waiting on the other side of a rift!

20 1 2 0

This is simultaneously my biggest #ShitpostTTRPG endeavor yet and an entirely earnest way of sharing dozens of my favorite indie #TTRPGs with more people.

My plan is to release it here advent calendar style throughout December and make the entire thing available on Itchio on NYE.

Okay. I think I'm going to attempt this.
But I'm going to need lots of inspiration.

Or do, I'm not your mom.

An image of a stick figure running away carrying a large sack with five circles in it. Text reads "A mindfulness mini TTRPG by Meghan Cross. The Thief of Joy"

black text on a white background reads
"Playing the game: The thief appears for the first time when you make a self-deprecating comment.
The thief LOVES self-deprecating comments.
The thief loves when you compare yourself to others and feel inadequate.
The thief lies in wait for these moments to strike.

Your goal while playing is to not allow the thief to win. The thief wins when their satchel is full and they make their way back to their hideout to plan for their next heist.
After the thief arrives, place this card in front of you, with the thief’s satchel face up. Each time you have a negative thought about yourself, place a token (anything can be a token - coins, dice, paper clips - whatever is handy) in one of the empty spaces in the thief’s satchel. The thief has room for five pieces of stolen joy before their satchel is full, and when the satchel is full, the thief has won.

If the thief has stolen joy in their satchel, and the satchel is not full, joy can be reclaimed with positive thoughts and statements about yourself. For each genuine compliment you pay yourself, you can remove one token from the thief’s satchel as you reclaim your joy from them.

Ending Play
Games can last as long as they need to, and when you are done playing if the thief has not won, you have won. Congratulations!

If the game ends with the thief winning, that’s okay too. Somedays the thief is too devious to outsmart and they get the best of you. If you have lost this time, you gain an advantage for the next time they arrive - the first time they steal joy from you, you can immediately reclaim that joy by declaring to the thief that their victory before didn’t defeat you and that you are better prepared for them this time.
The thief hates self confidence."

I hesitate to call this a #ShitpostTTRPG because it's more of a weird, mindfulness exercise - but I'm going to put it here anyway.

Are you prone to self deprecation? The Thief of Joy loves that, that means they're winning.
Don't let them win.

A blue background with various sized yellow and blue dots. Two minotaur graphics are holding maps around the large words "Minos Tours Unlimited" the rest of the text reads "If you find yourself lost, you can
summon a guide to show you around.

Light a small ball of string on fire and shape
the ashes into an arrow and your guide - a 2'
tall half human, half bull - will appear.

For the next 60 seconds they can show you exactly where you need to go, if you are looking for a specific location; or give you an overview of the area if you need a lay of the land.

After 60 seconds is up, they disappear.

The miniature minotaur can only
give a minute tour."

A light blue background with black font (and a hot pink lizard at the top) that reads
"Sticky Situations when you are about to start an encounter that is time sensitive, explain the encounter to your players and immediately toss the sticky gecko at the nearest wall.

if the players complete the encounter while the gecko is still adhered to the wall, they have succeeded; if they have not completed their task when the gecko detaches from the wall, they have failed.

sticky situations can be used with any TTRPG in any manner of encounter where time is a factor.

this includes:
(but is in no way limited to)
escaping from dungeon traps
timed puzzles
combat encounters: waves of enemies, countdown to boss appearance, etc"

Have you ever watched the Bluey episode "Sticky Gecko" and thought "Wow, that would make a good TTRPG mechanic?"
Well, I did so you didn't have to!
Sticky Situations is a sticky gecko based time keeping mechanic that works with any TTRPG.
It is the jewel of my #ShitpostTTRPG crown.

An image of a badge that says OHSHIT on it

While holding this badge, you have the authority to act as an agent of the Order for Hero Safety, Health, and Irreproachable Treatment (aka OHSHIT)

Whenever you enter a new space, if anything described by the GM could be considered in violation of OHSHIT standards, you may brandish your badge and declare to the GM that this space is not suitable for heroes to enter, and make a suggestion as to what needs to be altered before anyone can be permitted to enter.

Your authority as an OHSHIT agent can only be
exhausted once per session.

For GMs: If you so choose, you can challenge the OHSHIT agent to quote the exact regulation that being violated and if you (or the majority of players if you cannot be impartial) deem it insufficient proof of a violation, you can deny the claim and proceed as normal, though the badge authority is still expended for this session.

A game called S's free to a good home. The text reads "During a TTRPG session, if you encounter a situation that would be improved by the addition of a single letter S (Such as turning a friendly crow to friendly crows or a firebolt into firebolts) you may tear off one of the S’s from this flier and give it to your GM, telling them the change you wish to make.

Sometimes, all you need to turn the tide in your favor is a letter. And luckily for you, there's a whole lot of S's looking for work. Use them wisely (Or don't, I'm not your mom.)

Here's S's, Free to a Good Home, possibly my most shitposty #ShitpostTTRPG.

Rules for playing The TTRPG of Theseus "Start a TTRPG campaign as you normally would, the system doesn't matter - the TTRPG of Theseus can be played with any system.

At the end of each session, choose a rule or section in the game text of the TTRPG you are playing to remove from the game and replace.

This can be done in whatever way you choose - by physically crossing out the text in the book, covering it with post-it notes, photoshopping the game pdf - whatever way best suits you and your table.

Once you have removed that section of the game, replace it with a rule or game text of your own devising. This can be something completely new written by you or collaboratively by all players at the table, text from another TTRPG you enjoy, or a mix of the two This replacement text can be anything you want, as long as it adequately replaces the text that was removed. (ie. if a combat mechanic was removed, the replacement text should be related to combat, if information about a faction or guild was removed, it should be replaced by text about a new faction or guild, etc)

Once this has been done, when the time comes to play your next session, be sure to adhere to the new game text, and not the original.

Repeat this process throughout the remainder of your TTRPG campaign until either the campaign is over, the entire original game text has been replaced, or you decide to stop."

Today's #ShitpostTTRPG just may be my favorite.
A perfect example of what happens when I shitpost about game design - it only takes seconds to realize that I need to Make the Thing.
And then it's everyone else's problem.
(But seriously, who will play a TTRPG of Theseus campaign with me?)
