Shornemead Lighthouse and its walkway. The light is at the top of an iron tower, its base surrounded by fencing with barbed wire at the top of the fence. A walkway leads from the river bank to the tower. The structure is painted red, the colour somewhat faded. It stands against a blue sky with white cloud. The lighthouse stood from 1913 until 2003, when it was removed: it is now at the Port Of London Authority complex at Denton, Gravesend, a few miles upriver. It was removed due to erosion of the river bank and, presumably, age. The lighthouse has been restored and painted, revealing a copper dome not visible in my photo. It was replaced on the river by a red & White column light. Taken in 2003 using my first digital SLR, a Pentax *istD, which I still have. It still works...
