Slide rule found at an antique store
I'd been looking for a #sliderule after having made a crude one out of paper and cardboard and managed to score one at an antique store for about the equivalent of US$14. It looks like whoever owned it before didn't use it much as I needed to spray WD-40 to get it to slide more smoothly.

So I made a rather crude #sliderule based on the plans from Clifford Stoll's old article in Scientific American. It's fascinating how this actually works. The hardest thing to make was the cursor. Folding cellophane tape cleanly is not that easy. Maybe sometime I'll make an acrylic one.

My grandfather was an #engineer so in 1975 he got this #calculator to replace his #sliderule. It cost $225, which is—wait for it—$1344 in today's dollars. He let me play with it, I was 6!

Small circular metal slide rule for measuring centimeters, but will also calculate logs.
My tiny circular slide rule from Titaner finally arrived. It's reasonably cool. I opted for the titanium/copper combo, which I think looks really nice. One side has a pair of C & D log scales. The other side is for measuring, but can look up log values, like on a KL-1.

①簡単な｢1±x｣の形に変換。
②変換を元に戻す。
と解釈すれば分かりやすいかも。
例題) 537+284
①D尺537にC尺284を合わせると
537:284≒1:0.529が分かるので、
1+xの形に変換出来ます。
1+0.529=1.529
②1.529を元に戻す変換は｢×537｣。
D尺537にCI尺1529を合わせると
537×1.529≒821
この例は、学校で｢変換｣を教える際の導入として、考え方やメリットをイメージさせるのに、役に立つと思います。
もし変換のメリットを伝えたいなら、なるべく難しい例題を使うと効果的です。
