In Veii (6th century BCE), a statue shows a man with a dog. Only part of the #dog’s head survives, but the #morphology is unmistakable: it resembles a #Sloughi, the North African #sighthound. Even the pigment matches.

North African "Arabian greyhounds" Can be traced back to Morocco, Algeria, Libya, and Tunisia. Their exact history is somewhat unclear due to not being known well outside of Africa. But they have been owned among nobility/chieftains alike. Like the Basenji they are one of the oldest breeds in existence. Very loyal to their people, strong prey drive. Put on game such as hare, fox, jackal, gazelle, and wild pigs and very valued among Berber tribes for that reason.
