to snuff out the flames
huddle together for warmth
and pray for rescue

against drifting snow,
embers spiral into
the velvet night.
Heat endures
through pervasive frost,
a steadfast communion
of flame and ice.
Transient sanctuary,
luminous and unyielding,
a resolute refuge within
the frozen expanse.
