🇪🇺President @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu has followed through on her #SOTEU promise last week.
Commission just announced EU tariffs on €5.8bn in imports from Israel (which VDL can do on her own) and sanctions on Israeli ministers (which need unanimous approval from national governments).
The "45% tariff" equivalent on intra-EU trade line is everywhere, even in von der Leyen’s #SOTEU last week.
That number is misleading, as Smaghi explains. Lower intra-EU trade isn’t just about barriers but also consumer preferences for domestic products like food.
