A 1992 paper proposed classifying happiness as a psychiatric disorder A 1992 Journal of Medical Ethics paper argued happiness meets every diagnostic criterion for a psychiatric disorder — and it was satire.

Here's an interesting approach, happiness is bad for you. The Four Noble Truths in Buddhism propose a method of escaping suffering, they don't mandate or encourage happiness.
