A symbolic victory for Vi Hausia, ranking first in the Papatoetoe division by-election for the Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board here in #SouthAuckland! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
This young political leader led the charge for an investigation of the 2025 results & now rightfully starts his 2nd term as a strong local leader 🙌🏽
LOVE to see it!
#Botany is a massively diverse electorate with some huge extremes of inequality and privilege. Luxon has done a piss poor job at representing this electorate and we deserve someone who actually WORKS to represent and serve this place.

As I wind down almost 25 years of living and working in #southAuckland, I’m overcome by sentimentality over such small things 🥲
Catching the bus today, looking at Middlemore Hospital’s Galbraith Building, where I’ve experienced the darkest & most euphoric moments of life and death. Bye girl.

I'm leaving Auckland this year, almost exactly 25 years after I arrived as a horny 19 year old, fresh outta Suva City. I'm itching to get outta here but trying to honour these remaining months. Thank you #SouthAuckland, for a quarter century of good times & bad - I am who I am because of this place.
Two years ago today, I was still basking in the afterglow of watching my friend Fa'anānā Efeso Collings deliver a most blistering maiden speech in Parliament. I will never forget that moment, sitting in the gallery, feeling #Ōtara, #SouthAuckland and the whole #Pacific in his voice.
My kinda pedagogy 🤲🏽

When we had the Manukau Courier here in #SouthAuckland, a 3x a week free newspaper delivered to every household, arts content wasn't super in-depth but it was constant and powerful, documenting to place of art and artists in our communities.
Yes, that's Arts Laureate @tanugago.bsky.social lol
I don't know if there's anyone here who has whānau in #Ōtara 🦗 or #SouthAuckland 🦗🦗 but tonight we're holding space for some local knowledge on building flood resilience, intergenerational family homestead stylee. Come through for local knowledge, local storytelling. #FloodResilience #Grassroots
It’s interesting reading about perceptions of the Green Party. From working with the late Efeso Collins in the lead-up & delivery of his campaign in #SouthAuckland, the perception of the Greens was just… whiteness: it’s a white ppl party, white politics, white blinders. And I mean… are they wrong…
I did a holiday programme workshop in Ōtara today at one of our two awesome public libraries and I’m so grateful for libraries 💓 They are these local safe spaces to learn and play, be spoken to with respect, and feel valued. Really made my heart so happy.

First paddle of the summer was lovely and a reminder how special it is to live so close to swimmable water 🌊 #SouthAuckland
I started my professional career as a public servant & have returned to working in this space 20 years later… today in a hui I was blown away hearing the ways people in #SouthAuckland work to serve, inspire and uplift our communities. The dedication, nuance, integrity… absolutely fucking inspiring.
#Manukau Bike Hub gave me such good info and encouragement today, and helped me get back on my bike so me and girl child had our first ride in a week and it was sooooo nice!! Such a gorgeous day for a bike ride around #SouthAuckland 🥰
Diwali fireworks start at 9pm at Due Drop Events Centre 🎇🎆🪔🎆🎇

A powerful win for #SouthAuckland communities who fight tirelessly to protect our people from the systemic failures of the private and public sectors.
Our local liquor licence activists are a powerful force. CONGRATULATIONS!!
It’s a weird thing to live in a super intercultural reality in #SouthAuckland but be part of online communities where voices from the Pacific, Indigenous voices, hood voices, voices of resistance & BIPOC liberation, are not the dominant voices in this echo chamber.
We've had a couple of days of gloomy rainy weather in Ōtara, so I made a rainy day playlist dedicated to the waterways, streams and creeks of Ōtara ☔

The old stone stables at Te Puke o Tara (Hampton Park) in East Tāmaki. An eerie relic of a more pronounced era of coloniality...

We did a creek clean-up in #Ōtara this week that was so rewarding! As soon as rubbish and debris was removed from the waterway, ducks and eels moved around the volunteers and the sound of the water moving more freely was so beautiful!

Seeing tuna / eels in the Ōtara creek today was such a cool buzz!

Stood staring at fat happy rabbits running in and out of the ruins of old stone stables on the pa site and small volcanic cone of Te Puke o Tara, East Tāmaki, #SouthAuckland today.
We should eat more rabbit.
I love that Tongan school teaches my New Zealand-born girl child about the flowers of Tonga, and when she comes home we talk about how Mohokoi in Tongan is Mokosoi in Fijian, and I tell her about the aroma, and all of this because a Tongan unit exists within a kura kaupapa in Ōtara, #SouthAuckland.
🔮 These mini banners are mostly quick studies, guided by colour, intuition & a love of fringe. Little altars, affirming quiet knowns, made with heavy canvas, synthetic felt, fringe, ric-rac, beads and cowrie shells. Perfectly imperfect, hand made in #SouthAuckland.

I've been a fangirl of Czarina Wilson's practice for years and years; this is us 15 years ago promoting her first solo show, "Plastic" at Fresh Gallery Ōtara, which was such a joy to help produce!

Nigel Borell is a proud representative of #SouthAuckland principles; he speaks whole truths from his whole chest. MAD respect!! A curator who represents HARD.

I have been a local government voter since I moved to #SouthAuckland aged 19, and there are incumbents in the mix this year who have been sitting comfortably in those warm publicly-funded seats since then. They NEED to be moved on. They were weak then, brazenly incompetent now.
