🌍 Southern Red Bishop (Euplectes orix) In breeding plumage the male Southern Red Bishop is a striking small bird, with a vibrant red and black colouration. Females and non-breeding males are streaky brown. They are widely distributed across southern and eastern African wetlands and grasslands, always near water. Highly social, they form flocks, and males are polygynous, building multiple nests and performing display flights to attract females.
