A week of sheltering from the elements left Mouse a little short of noteworthy photos this week, but there is still a standout #MouseFavouritePhoto from #StLukeBrislington Bristol. The fine protective mesh over this window gives the light a wonderful translucence
And as Mouse move on, what of the church of #StLukeBrislington Bristol? Well Mouse can't give it a #MusVisit rating as she didn't get inside and what was a lovely Somerset village has long been swallowed by Bristol sprawl. Mouse won't be going back
The enduring allure of #ChurchDoorFittings
The pull and handle are probably Victorian. They're attached with a variety of screws and, from Mouse's viewpoint at least, fitted in aesthetically unpleasing juxtaposition #StLukeBrislington Bristol
Mouse's #FridaysBitsAndPieces from #StLukeBrislington Bristol. Bits and pieces Mouse hasn't managed to share during the week: Medieval standing cross; 4-step calvary, socket stone and shaft, all octagonal. Scrolls to base of shaft. Ball finial (probably) replaces original cross #StandingCross
Good church gates seem to be a bit thin on the ground in these parts, but half a gate is better than none #StLukeBrislington Bristol #Thursgate #IronworkThursday
Mouse may have been outside all week but at least she get this gorgeous #WestDoorAndWindowCombo
#StLukeBrislington Bristol for #AdoorableThursday
West of west tower #StLukeBrislington Bristol for #AdoorableThursday
Is this crocketed #Ogee with finial and flanking pinnacles earlier, later or contemporaneous with the south porch? The Listing says C19. Mouse jury still out. Nice contrast between pennant and bath stone though
The curious porch of #StLukeBrislington Bristol. Made of ashlar it is in total contrast to the pennant rubble of the rest of the church. It's suggested, because of the #Ogee, that it predates the C15 nave and tower. Looks English Renaissance to Mouse though. #AdoorableThursday
North aisle #StLukeBrislington Bristol for #WindowsOnWednesday
Pointed Perp. 3-light window with pentafoil cusped #Ogee lights, shallow cavetto label and plain stops. Mouse feel sure there is technical term for the shape with trefoil heads at each end but can't put her paw on it
The 3-bay north aisle #StLukeBrislington Bristol for #WindowsOnWednesday
One of those churches where the boundary wall is so close that you can't get everything in, but it is a chance to take in the fabulous mullion mouldings on these fine Perpy 3-light windows
Pure Perpendicular. West window, south aisle #StLukeBrislington Bristol
Three cusped #Ogee lights surmounted by two asymmetric hexagons each sub-divided into two daggers
The #MouseEyeView; tower and stair turret #StLukeBrislington Bristol
South elevation #StLukeBrislington Bristol for #TowerTuesday and #TinyWindowTuesday
Polygonal stair turret with one or more #TinyWindow per stage. Intricately decorated at the level of the parapet and surmounted by a ribbed octagonal spirelet crocketed at the top with finial
The fine 3-stage Perpendicular tower of #StLukeBrislington Bristol
Diagonal buttresses surmounted by pinnacles and a parapet of blind cusped pointed arches underpinned by gargoyles. A niche baring a saint sits central to each parapet. All very fine indeed
"So why is Mouse in a grump?" you ask yourself (or you would if you follow the carefully crafted narrative arc Mouse has in her timeline). It's locked. That's why. Mouse absolutely, positively hates locked churches. The 'everything Mouse loves' porch of #StLukeBrislington Bristol
welcome to the rather fine looking Perpendicular church of #StLukeBrislington Bristol. You would be forgiven for thinking from Mouse's artful photography that this church is in an enchanting rural setting. You would however be wrong, Very, very wrong indeed
