Overhead view of a thin-bodied fly resting on a leaf spotted with light and dark patches of green growth. The fly is positioned diagonally with the head in the lower right portion of the image. The body is brown with four dark spines arising from the thorax, with thin amber-colored legs and brown translucent wings with several groupings of 2-3 white spots. The dark red eyes and small antennae of the fly are at the ends of long dark eye stalks that are each not quite as long as the length of the thorax to the wing tips.

The eyes have it! #FlyDay. Both the males & females of #StalkEyed #Flies, Fam. #Diopsidae, have their eyes (& antennae – a character absent in other families) located at the ends of eye stalks. Male’s eyes are more widely spaced; likely a sexually-selected trait. Mt. #Kinabalu #Sabah #Malaysia
