#StateLibraryVictoria management wants the controversy it's caused to go away. It will not. The people of Victoria won't cop it being turned into a soulless husk. The beloved cafe just handed to corporate caterers. Queens Hall, a great 19th Century hall of books, now gutted & a wedding venue.
Is the #StateLibraryVictoria now run largely by a money-mates board? Is our State public library run by people who don't understand it? We don't even have a Chief Librarian. Damage must be reversed. Rolling fiascos: plans to cover the dome with videos, censorship scandals & staff expert exodus.
She may not be a vulgarian; she may be a competent board member. But WHY at the #StateLibraryVictoria? Why not announced last year? Why is the Library management getting away with 'withdrawing' its bizarre plans to cover the dome with video screens; staff-razing ethos; declining exhibition quality?
Is Ms Christian, who resigned in 2025, still there? Why is the board STILL being stacked with so many connected finance people with no Library, writing, research, collections or history expertise? Why are there unfilled seats on the board? Where is the minister in this? #StateLibraryVictoria
Was the wife of a Macquarie Bank exec with no Library expertise appointed to the board of #StateLibraryVictoria last year, only now on the website? Did the Bank just invest in a start-up backed by SLV President Christine Christian? Did she find that company through her Library-backed start-up hub?
