Absolutely. Reassuring them that we see them as individuals, and we have seen their learning and improvement can only lead to a decrease in stereotype threat in performance #stereotypethreat #testanxiety
I agree! That is why supporting students emotionally and creating a calm, low-stress environment during testing is really important. #stereotypethreat #testanxiety
I agree with you. Even when students understand the material, anxiety can make them second-guess themselves or lose focus. This can lead to results that don’t reflect their true ability. #stereotypethreat #testanxiety
#stereotypethreat and #testanxiety Test anxiety can make students feel nervous and distracted during assessments.
It can affect their ability to think clearly, remember information, and focus.
As a result, students may perform below their actual understanding and ability.
Did you have test anxiety as a kid? Do you have it now? Did a teacher or anyone help you deal with it? #TeacherEd #Testanxiety #stereotypethreat
Test anxiety impacts the working memory of our brains. The brain is distracted by the worry/anxiety and goes into 'fight or flight' response. Honestly, as a student, I had test anxiety so badly I would have the shakes. #stereotypethreat #testanxiety
#stereotypethreat and #testanxiety.
How can it impact student performance on assessments?

When students try to combat a stereotype about a group they belong to, and do so while taking a test, anxiety and possibly low performance are the result. I make clear to my students that I have confidence in them and they only need to prove themselves content-wise. #stereotypethreat #testanxiety
This is a great idea -- making a test into a regular assignment. Does that mean that you grade it like you would an assignment, or something else? In any case, it's terrific to find a way to reduce students' stress and anxiety. #stereotypethreat #testanxiety
I believe a lot of students suffer with test anxiety, therefore I use testing as just a regular assignment. I find when I use this method students do better than knowing it is a quiz. They are not stressed, and they are not anxiety ridden. #stereotypethreat #testanxiety.
Test anxiety can really hinder a students success, so it’s important to make sure those aren’t the only assessments we are giving #stereotypethreat #testanxiety.
Brent Staples, a University of Chicago graduate student, attested to this type of stereotypical threat. Not sure I would have taken the steps he took initially to combat stereotype threats by whistling Beatles tunes and Vivaldi. (Claude Steele, not in our School). #stereotypethreat #TeacherEd
As an elementary school teacher whose demographics include majority Black and Hispanic students, this thread absolutely applies in a school setting and has provided me with a sobering reminder that #Stereotypethreat begins so early and will follow my students well after they leave me. #TeacherED

Clearly I don’t fit into the typical ‘female’ stereotype; I’m no home maker, can’t bake to save my life & don’t smile enough 😂#negativestereotypes
Knock this approach on its head, encourage positive stereotypes instead 😊👏👏

#Stereotypethreat: occurs when people experience or perceive stereotypes about their group and feel pressured to disprove stereotypes leading to failures to perform to a given standard (Claude Steele, 2010) #ABAWebinar #implicitbias
Powerful insights from Dr. Michelle Albert. Race & gender intersectionality if unrecognized, can result in marginalization, isolation, & a constant state of #StereotypeThreat. Solutions aren’t easy. But worth pursuing. #ACC19 #ACCWIC
