It was hard thought and a lot for unpaid emotional effort on their part (and mine as a late comer to BS10K).

Excellent news!

#Spectrum10K represented what was wrong with a lot of Autism research:

- not a priority for #ActuallyAutistic people
- ethically flawed (understatement)
- exclusionary of autistic people in its conception & ignored response
- contributed to stigma & "cure" research
#StopSpectrum10K

I think in part because of #StopSpectrum10K and #BoycottSpectrum10K, biological autism research is much more likely to be done with some autistic community participation than before. The funding priorities are more stubborn to shift, but are gradually somewhat.

Closing Spectrum 10K: A Victory for Autistic Advocacy Today the Autism Research Centre have published the Spectrum 10K consultation and what they plan to do next. During their consultation period they hear from over 500 Autistic people and parents/carers of Autistic children.The gap between the consultation finishing and their making the consultation public has been a long one (read Unpaused and Still Unethical). The ARC has suggested that changes in their study plans are due to the "considerable" advances in autism research since the study was announced five years ago.

I agree with the main premise of this paper and find it very interesting and timely in the context of studies like #stopspectrum10k, but would argue that the target of intervention for neurodivergence in many (most? all?) cases should be the environment rather than the neurodivergent individual
