Strategic decisions introduce uncertainty long before risk frameworks capture it.
This week’s newsletter explores how governance can align decision ownership with uncertainty management.

The India–Israel nexus may embolden aggressive postures, increasing risks of proxy wars, border escalation, and a wider regional crisis.

The most overlooked fact in this crisis: the US already has near-total military access to Greenland under existing treaties. That makes the acquisition rhetoric revealing rather than strategic. buff.ly/fqkFVM8

Strategic risk rarely starts with shocks.
It builds through incremental decisions and unchallenged assumptions.
This week’s newsletter explores how governance can surface exposure before choices become irreversible.

Trump sells Nvidia AI chips to China — profit over U.S. security. China gains power, Washington loses leverage. Short-term greed, long-term threat. #AI #China #US #NationalSecurity #StrategicRisk

A useful tip: build antifragility. Create options that benefit from volatility. For example, run a small pilot program to test ideas before going all in.

What happens when the sheriff leaves town — or starts firing in every direction?
In my latest piece, I revisit Johan Galtung’s eerily prescient forecast of US decline — and explore what it means for Australia’s place in the world.

My prediction: The #Repro landscape looks very different in a few yrs. Some will fail, some will survive long enough 2 rebuild, & some will thrive- yes, thrive

Our own LEOS constellation is a tempting thought, but that carries its own risks:

Catastrophic failure of every low Earth orbiting system is a distinct possibility.

Seems like a reasonable short-term stopgap. Still uses networks over which Australia has no control. I wonder if they have any plans for the longer term.

I doubt that people who lose their 'phone connection when Musk decides that Australians don't respect the US enough will appreciate the technicalities. Tesltra is abandoning parts of the legacy network and using Starlink to patch the resulting holes. They're using Starlink as a cheap way to meet their USO responsibilities for new connections. For the record, I'm concentrating on basic voice lines here. There are premises that have a voice line supplied by Telstra under the USO via Starlink (often migrated from older terrestrial technologies) and Internet services via NBN Skymuster.
Let's just say that I'm decidedly unimpressed with what Telstra's doing to the legacy network in the regions. To me, it's little short of treason.

Evidently a permanent "peripheral" and thus an "integral part" of Telstra's network. It seems to be their favoured replacement for NGWL, among others.

Starlink is already an "integral part" of Telstra's network. In the regions, an application to Telstra for a land line will often be met with a Starlink connection. The strategic risks are obvious, but our government allows it.
